I think a few others have mentioned the somewhat abrupt throttle tip-in on the 07 - I had 'complained' about it before, some have said they either don't notice it or it doesn't bother them. I find it annoying.

I've seen it mentioned in quite a few reviews also. This month's Motor Trend made mention of it, but also mentioned that Infiniti execs stated that the ECU was going to be flashed with an upgrade for 2008 that resolves the throttle tip-in sensitivity.

Any had a chance to query their local dealer about this?

Also, it seems reasonable/possible that this update could be applied to an 07 as well. Anybody with any comments on this? I, for one, would pay to have an ECU flash update done if it was going to fix the tip-in problem. My guess is that the dealer won't want to do this - they'd rather you just lose a crapload of $ by trading in your 07 for an 08. Since I have a G35X, and with 08 the sport package is available for the G35X, it's almost worth thinking about...almost.

Anyway, I just wanted to get everybody else's opinions and experience on the subject.

I hated it! I'm so glad it was a dealer loaner. The brakes were also way too touchy. It did not feel like a refined car at all!

I just figured it was beaten because it was a loaner...na, who beats on rental/loaner cars

geez that abrupt throttle tip in was one of the selling points for me.

My Hemi ram had drive by wire too and it took me about 2 weeks to get it to give full throttle quickly. I had to drag the cable at the pedal back and zip tie the slack out of it. Then I had to get the battery and fuse box out of the truck find the micro switch and drag the slack out of it and zip tie it. Finally I disassembled the throttle body and added little material to the switch that opens the throttle body making it open faster and sooner.

If you so much as looked at the gas pedal in the ram it was WOT. Thats the way every performance vehicle should be if you don't like it go buy a Mercedes or BMW, I'll wave when I pass you.

I was thinking it was just me getting used to it at first. Then, I saw others mentioning it, now I see major car magazines citing the problem. In fact, it seems to be one of their biggest complaints. It's one of mine as well. I would expect a Ford or a Dodge to be jumpy, not smooth and not fully in control at take off, but not an Infiniti (or a BMW, Mercedes etc.) If I wanted jerky take offs, I would have bought something 'unrefined', not an Infiniti.

Maybe it's only a problem, or noticeable, with the auto Trans, as I have.

From Motor Trend: (Opening sentence)Like a wild bronco, the G35 S continues to be jumpy on takeoff, prompting editors to note the aggressive tip-in. "Throttle gets touchy at times," observes one. Another says, "The throttle is kind of herky-jerky at the start." Truck Trend's art director Thomas Voehringer went so far as to note, "Tip-in is way too aggressive-in a lipstick-smearing, coffee-spilling, poking-your-eye-out-with-the-mascara sort of way."

Another Update:One complaint has been voiced, however: The throttle response is too aggressive -- too much input from a stop, and you can give yourself whiplash or even break the tires loose if on wet pavement or over a painted line. Still, with enough seat time, light throttle modulation becomes a snap.

Then, at 15,000 miles:Nearly 15,000 miles in, the second-generation G35 continues to be a staff sweetheart, although one of its attributesis leaving us especially sour. "Our G35 is plagued by an annoying, overly aggressive throttle tip-in," rants editorat large St. Antoine, who piloted the G up to the annual Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. Other editors havepreviously noted this aggravation, and it turns out Infiniti is listening. "The Infiniti execs I spoke with atPebble say that, based partly on our criticisms, they've cured this shortcoming with a newly programmed ECU for 2008models." We're looking forward to trying the fresh electronics, which should eliminate, as St. Antoine says, "the head-jerk you get when pulling away from a stop."

Car and Driver:Other demerits: The G35’s throttle tip-in is abrupt, reminiscent of recent Audis’. An unjudicious jab at the pedal produces unwanted lunging from a standing start.

Popular Mechanics:The engine’s throttle tip-in off idle is pretty abrupt. It’s not a problem on the open road, but in stop-and-go driving with just a touch of throttle, we’re spilling our morning Starbucks. Trying to grandma off the line just creates a lot of cutting-in-front and merciless honking. Sheesh

Yeah the tip in is nice when you want WOT quickly. But for driving around town it is annoying. I've driven a loaner a couple times and it bugged me when I was at a light or something.

So wait there are people who don't want WOT quickly?

I like a vehicle you can't even get out of a parking spot without breaking the tires loose. I like a torque converter that stalls at over 3000 rpm. I like exhuast noise so loud you can't carry on a conversation with the motor started. But I traded that truck for the G and the throttle tip in gets no complaints from me.

Of course, to each his own. I just personally feel that a luxury sport sedan should provide a smooth take off when I want it to, but still be able to boot it when I mash the throttle.

Again, if I wanted WOT whenever I touched the gas, I probably would have bought and restored a 68 Mustang and tossed a well modded 429 into it - or something along those lines. I still feel that a G35 sedan should be smooth. It seems that Infiniti agrees, since it's tuned the throttle response to be smoother for take off for the 2008 sedan. I just was really trying to find out if anybody had managed to get the 2008 ECU flash done on their 2007.

I didn't like it when I test drove an 07 sedan. I was thinking that we could swap one of our 05's, but it felt too different from what we were used to. That was my only observation. Oh, and it didn't have the road feel that our 05's have. Guess they're more luxury. Nothing wrong with that if that's what you're going after though! Now, if the 07 trhottle could be adjusted, I might have to go test drive some more.

I also had the throttle tip-in on my '07 G35S MT. There is a cruise control TSB that resolves this issue. I had it done and no longer have the abrubt throttle response or jerkiness with cruise control engaged.

I love the aggressive throttle! I would not want this car without it! I drive very fast and very aggressive. The touchy throttle only helps in enhancing my ride. As soon as the light turns green, I floor it! Oh, and the exhaust note when you do that is SOOOOOO sweet! Especially late at night when there are almost no other cars around town. That exhaust note just roars throughout the town! I love it!!!!

I know this is a VERY old post but I found some info on another site that I thought might be helpful to others. My wife has an 07 G35X and we love the car for the most part but the over touchy accelerator drove both of us crazy when starting from a stop. Come to find out the problem was ME...who knew. As explained in the link below the G has a bottom hinged gas pedal. Everything I am accustomed to driving has a top hinged pedal which trained me to just use my toe on the bottom of the pedal. Now I rest my entire foot on the pedal and apply the pressure to the top. This makes all the difference in the world and increases the driving experience immensely. :woot: Now I can accelerate abruptly, which is most of the time, :naughty: but still smoothly when I want.

Thanks goes to snowcrossmxz on this link for teaching me how to drive my car: :bowrofl:
