I was thinking it was just me getting used to it at first. Then, I saw others mentioning it, now I see major car magazines citing the problem. In fact, it seems to be one of their biggest complaints. It's one of mine as well. I would expect a Ford or a Dodge to be jumpy, not smooth and not fully in control at take off, but not an Infiniti (or a BMW, Mercedes etc.) If I wanted jerky take offs, I would have bought something 'unrefined', not an Infiniti.
Maybe it's only a problem, or noticeable, with the auto Trans, as I have.
From Motor Trend: (Opening sentence)Like a wild bronco, the G35 S continues to be jumpy on takeoff, prompting editors to note the aggressive tip-in. "Throttle gets touchy at times," observes one. Another says, "The throttle is kind of herky-jerky at the start." Truck Trend's art director Thomas Voehringer went so far as to note, "Tip-in is way too aggressive-in a lipstick-smearing, coffee-spilling, poking-your-eye-out-with-the-mascara sort of way."
Another Update:One complaint has been voiced, however: The throttle response is too aggressive -- too much input from a stop, and you can give yourself whiplash or even break the tires loose if on wet pavement or over a painted line. Still, with enough seat time, light throttle modulation becomes a snap.
Then, at 15,000 miles:Nearly 15,000 miles in, the second-generation G35 continues to be a staff sweetheart, although one of its attributesis leaving us especially sour. "Our G35 is plagued by an annoying, overly aggressive throttle tip-in," rants editorat large St. Antoine, who piloted the G up to the annual Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. Other editors havepreviously noted this aggravation, and it turns out Infiniti is listening. "The Infiniti execs I spoke with atPebble say that, based partly on our criticisms, they've cured this shortcoming with a newly programmed ECU for 2008models." We're looking forward to trying the fresh electronics, which should eliminate, as St. Antoine says, "the head-jerk you get when pulling away from a stop."
Car and Driver:Other demerits: The G35’s throttle tip-in is abrupt, reminiscent of recent Audis’. An unjudicious jab at the pedal produces unwanted lunging from a standing start.
Popular Mechanics:The engine’s throttle tip-in off idle is pretty abrupt. It’s not a problem on the open road, but in stop-and-go driving with just a touch of throttle, we’re spilling our morning Starbucks. Trying to grandma off the line just creates a lot of cutting-in-front and merciless honking. Sheesh
