07 G35 pinging problem

Hello Friends,

Bought a nearly flawless 07 G35 coupe 6 speed manual about a month ago. 35k miles on it.

I didn't notice pinging when I took it out for a test drive, but shortly after purchase it started pinging during normal acceleration - have always used premium fuel.

I took it to my mechanic and he said only use quality name brand gas (like Arco) for a few tanks and see if that helps. It hasn't. He said something about the Engine's EGR, but am not sure what that is. He also said that this car shouldn't need a tune-up yet. I did Reset the ECU, as documented on the forums here. Didn't help.

One thing that kept this car from being flawless, is that on the dash, there's indicator that's supposed to show what gear you're currently in. My indicator has been stuck on 'REV' ever since day 1. Makes me wonder if the computer also thinks the car is in reverse, and not sensing or applying the proper timing because of that?

Any thoughts?

You may want to try a step colder NGK plug.

With an '07 if you are <60k it's still under factory warranty and I would suggest you take it to Infiniti for repair. Something is not right.
