It's been a week since taking ownership of my G35 Journey with Premium and, with some help from the Bay Area, I have 1100 miles on the car and am emerging from break-in. Here are a few notes:

(1) I've followed the break-in procedure and varied speed over the 1100 miles, with perhaps only 10 miles at a stretch. Power delivery seems eager out towards the 4K limit that I try to observe. That limit ends sometime tomorrow!

(2) IPod integration is woeful. Infiniti needs to get a clue on this topic. Attempts to use a Griffin product that attaches to the cigarette lighter result in bad alternator noise through the IPod.

(3) Cupholders are insufficiently spaced for two grande lattes. My wife complains.

(4) MP3 support is pretty cool, but the idrive-like knob should let the current audio selection continue until the new selection is selected.

(5) DVD-R/RW support would be even cooler. I can get 6 albums per MP3, but could get 60 on DVDs. Hmmm, are MP3 DVDs supported with nav package?

(6) Dealer quoted me $600+ for the Sirius package (w/o installation!) on a $300 MSRP PIO option. Crazy. I can wait until a sane price comes out of a low-cost vendor.

(7) Climate control seems counter-intuitive. If passenger turns off their climate control, car should close the vents too, but Infiniti leaves them open leaking heat at the temp of the most recent setting.

(8) I went to put my wife's purse in the trunk at a party the other day and the car refused to close the trunk. I kept banging the trunk down over and over again until I realized it was helping me by preventing her key fob from being locked in the trunk. Nice, but I had a key fob and was standing behind the vehicle. Maybe we need a scenario where a key fob is consciously locked in the trunk?

(9) Seat heaters are nice, but my son complains that they are not in the back seat too.

(10) Ditto 9 but for lumbar support for the passenger.

OK, enough complaining. Smooth, effortless power delivery. Great looks. Reasonable fuel consumption (slightly better than my WRX!) at 21.4 MPG over mixed driving of a 306 HP monster. Nice.

306hp = sedan. Coupe with VQ35HR has not been released yet.

It should be a felony [public stoning as an option] to drink or eat inside vehicles, along with cellphone use even with handsfree.

The 3 major causes of inattention accidents and damages [spilling liquids that short wiring connections].

See too much damage to vehicles from these actions.

Don't forget the iDrive-like knob, another only sedan option.

Interesting list that only someone who has lived with the car a few days is likely to know.

I've never had a car with dual-zone ACC. How common is #7?

I just picked up my 2007 G35 sport today and was hoping that you can tell me where you found the break-in procedures for the car (the delear didn't memtion it). I will see if I can locate it in the manual/reference guide in the mean time....

On the IPOD, did you attempt to use the AUX hook to connect the IPOD (located in the arm rest)?

I believe the manual explains it, but its fairly common to all new vehicles.

A few rules for the first 1000mi:

1. Modulate your engine RPMs on the highway. Don't keep it at the same speed for long periods of time.

2. Don't "lug" the engine

3. Try and keep the RPMs below 5k.

4. Don't slam your brakes (unless you have to)

5. Change the oil after the first 1000mi.

Du'oh! I've redlined my coupe twice since I got it and I've got less than 300Km on it.

I can't find any thing in the manuals on break-in procedures, BTW.

When I picked it up, all the salesman told me was to alternate driving styles. Drive it hard one day, easy the next. And don't use the cruise for the first 2000km (yes, I'm in Canada). That's all they told me when I asked.

I've had my 2007 G35 M6 Sport coupe for just over a month. I got winter rims and Blizzaks but I'm still hesitant to take it out in the snow. That's why I have so few Kms on it.

I totally disagree with the salesmen that told you to drive it nice then hard every other day. I found this info on the net.

"You'll want to take it easy on your G35 for the first 1,000 miles. This will ensure that all parts are smoothed out and ready for spirited driving. Try your hardest to keep the RPM's under 4,000 for the first 1,000 miles. After that, slowly increase your power and by 1,500 mile you should be clear to red line it!"

As far as snow.. I'm in Toronto so although I don't get as much snow as you, we do get some bad storms. Whatever you do (TRUST ME) keep your VDC ON!! Unless you are in an abondened parking lot...DO NOT gun it. This is a rear wheel drive car, you WILL fish tail very easy. Most of the time, I kinda found myself starting in 2nd gear. The car can handle pretty good in snow (you got the Blizzaks which are awesome) as long as you don't get over confident.

Picked up my new 2007 G35 Sport Sedan 1 week ago today. Check out page 5-41 in the owners manual for recommended break-in procedure. First 1200 miles = Not over 4,000 RPM and vary engine speeds, No full throttle acceleration, Avoid quick starts and avoid hard braking.Haven't tried the mp3 files on a DVD yet with the Nav option. Will try tomorrow. My G35 Sport has all 3 of the pkg's available. Premium, Navigation and Tech pkg. Like it a lot so far.Anyone know where to purchase a switch to override the DVD nav system for playing DVD's with the parking brake off?Bought a 2GB Compact Flash card and loaded it with mp3 files for the card reader slot on the dash. Works real nice.

I've been seeing this comment on the internet, andsome saleman also told me that I can plug in my ipod to the Aux in teh armrest. I got the car charger adapter for ipod, but it will not play. Am I missing something? I have 2007 G35 coupe. Is this only in Sedan? One thing I know I don't have is SAT radio hook up, as we have no service in Hawaii. But it is the bose system with SAT option.

Yes it's only on the 07 Sedan (it was redesigned and the coupe was not.)They do have kits for the Ipod for our cars 03-06 sedan, 03-07 coupe. Search around and you'll find it. I know one is the AAI-NIS2, but that one is just aux inputs, there is another one that is specific to the Ipod.

Can you tell me specifically the model/size of your Blizzaks and rims? I assume TPMS doesn't work with your winter tires?

Randyman,

They are Akuza Road Concepts 18" Sublime wheels.

Mounted on them are Blizzak LM-22 tires. Fronts are 225/45 R18 91V and the rears are 245/45R18 96V.

The package cost me $2,200CAN mounted and balanced.

The TPMS shouldn't work with them, but the indicator light hasn't come on while I've been driving it. I'll have to ask about that when I go back for service. Maybe they mounted the correct valve stem modules?
