Hi Everyone,

I just installed a Stillen Strut tower bar to my Sentra, and after installation I started to hear a metal rattling noise on the driver side. Can anyone help me? I read online that it could be the a/c pipes hitting it. But that is on the passenger side and they seem to be fine. All four bolts are tight. Any suggestions?

Thanks

This may sound stupid, but if you put it on and didn't get it all the way down on the studs, the bolts can seem tight when the bar isn't completely seated.

Other than that, pop the hood and try to locate the rattling noise by ear. It's tough to diagnose rattles without hearing/seeing the vehicle.

I verified that the bar and the nuts are tight. I retighten them, and it still rattles. The rattling occurs when driving forward or backward at about 1500 RPMs. When the car is in gear idling at ~750 RPMs there is no sound.I tried hard Accel and bracking and quick hard turns last night. After 15 min. it had seem to have subsided, but then this morning, the rattling came back. Any other suggestions?

yea i have the same strut bar for my o7 sentra. mine rattles too. I think its the black "hook lookin thingy" on the intake tube that is attached to the throttle body hittin the brace. I noticed a lill black scuff right were the "thingy" is located at the strut bar.

I havent seen the black scuff on the bar yet, but I'll keep an eye on it. Could it be anything else?

Since it's RPM related, it has to be something that's very close to the bar such that when it oscillates enough (as with a higher rpm - more vibration) it's hitting the bar at a high enough speed to be audible.

So, run your hand along the bar and feel for anything nearby. If you can tie the object off somewhere or something, do it. Otherwise I guess you have to hope it goes away.

I'll try to do what is suggested later tonight, after work I'll keep you posted. Also, after installing the bar, i noted that when I drive, I hear my tire tread noise/friction against the asfalt a bit more. Could this have to do with a more rigid front chasis?

Roll your eyes all you want. We get a lot of people here who are complete novices to cars, and, therein, don't do seemingly obvious little checks like I suggested.

Since I can't see/hear the car, I'm out of ideas for the moment.

However, I can confirm that the increased tire noise is related to the increased rigidity.

After a third go around, I found that this is where the sound originates. I put a small round rubber with 3M adhesive to both the bar and the 'black thingy' and the noise was reduced significantly. Thanks
