A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I might be buying one of these from a local dealership and when I test drove it it ran great but when I shifted into third it grinded going in so I thought it was me so I tried again and it did it again and tried a few more times just to be sure, so my question is if I should leave this car alone or should I still try to buy it? It has 84500 miles on it if that means anything.

My '02 does the same thing, and Im thinking its a synchronizer. It wasn't that bad when I got it (8000 miles ago) but it has been getting progressively worse. Cruisin around through town and stuff it does alright but when Im driving hard it grinds pretty bad. I do beat the hell out of third gear though, but it has held up alright so far...In my opinion if it is a clean car and thats the only issue you've found with it at this point it would be worth it.

3rd gear is pretty tough to get into on our cars when you aren't used to them. My guess is that the previous owner ground 3rd a lot. My recommendation is BG Synchroshift II, it'll help out on minor grinding issues. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I didn't have any grinding but it made a world of difference in the shift feel. It'll be marginal the first day, but in about a weeks time you'll feel the effects.

The dealer wants $9995 but he said he going to lower the price some for me. Do yall think this is a good price for this car?

That's not a bad price at all, especially if he's going to bring it lower for you.

Is that a gear oil? Where did you find it for sale?

Yeah man, I found it locally at a shop in an industrial park here in Maryland.

A lot of people buy from here though: https://secure.buschurracing.com/catalo ... cts_id=825

Site doesn't show the specs but Synchroshift II has the right weight/GL numbers for our Trans's. I don't even think they sell the originally Synchroshift anymore, which was the wrong GL Number.

I'm not sure where you're located but I'd be glad to go see if that shop still sells it for ya.

Hmm interesting. Do you know what viscosity it is supposed to replace?

Yeah, I figured as much. Nissan usually specs 75w90 or somewhere around there for gear oil. Honda usually goes much much thinner (like 0w20 motor oil thin).
