I noticed a heavy gasoline odor in my garage a week ago and took the Pathfinder to a mechanic who couldn't see a any signs of a gasoline drip/leak from anywhere underneath the car.

I've pinpointed the gasoline odor coming from the rear driver's side wheel well (forward of that tire).

I've only tried two things - bought a new gas cap at the Nissan dealer, and did a test drive. Didn't help. A day later, I disconnected the battery, then reconnected after an hour, and did a test drive. Same odor every time, same place on the car. In fact 24 hours since the last turning the car on, the odor is STILL noticeable in the same spot.

Been a great car for the last 19 years - and I'd like a few more years, but can't afford to pay thousands to a repair shop for new oxygen sensors, mass air flow sensors, and catalytic converters, or whatever they throw at the vehicle to try and fix it. The dealer did replace both cats 10 years ago.

Even after the gasoline odor issue started, the vehicle continues to run flawlessly.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to try next.

Thanks!

Smells like a EVAP system problem. Look for cracked vapor lines. Starting on page EC-36 will give you an idea where to look. https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... 6%2Fec.pdf
