In the market for a pre-owned 6MT coupe, preferably 2006, black in color. However, I was hoping introduction of the new G37 would accelerate a drop in prices of 06 and 07 models; haven't seen much change yet looking at Carmax, autoTrader, etc...Any input on how I can get the best deal on a used 06 or when the G37 should impact used G35 prices? Thanks in advance and thanks also for you patience responding to a newbie on this forum!

I got mine at $6k under book. You need to buy the NADA book (yellow book). It is the auto wholesalers book and is what they figure your trade-in price from. That is what the actual value of a car is. Just as well, if you know anyone in the auto sales industry, find the car you want. Get a price. Have your friend call as if they were going to purchace from one dealership to sell at another dsealership. Get that price from your friend. Go back to the dealership with that info, as to what they were willing to sell it to another dealer for. Offer them the price they were willing to sell to other dealer for, and don't budge from that price. That's how I scored mine.

Thanks that makes sense. Sometimes I look at NADA on line at http://www.nadaguides.com/Hopefully this is the same as the paper version. I've also heard September is typically the month when the next-year versions tend to start impacting current-year model values, and to make an offer very close to the end of the month when the dealer is trying to get rid of inventory.

Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Carmax?

I saw a used cobra mustang on their showroom floor that was supposedly mint condition with no accidents. I could tell that the fender had been replaced and the cobra was facing the wrong direction. I didn't really check for other damage after seeing that.In other words, check their cars out just as carefully as any other. In addition, I think their prices are below dealers advertised used car prices, but dealers I've delt with will go below Carmax's no hassle price.

I do look at Carmax's prices to get a feel at what the dealer should be able to easily beat.

I wouldn't expect a huge price reduction...but the demand will go down for the older cars. You're better off trying to find an almost new 05/06 with low miles.
