My sister has an 06 Murano, purchased in Nov 2009. She recently noticed the A/C doesnt work. The climate control 'thinks' it does. If you if turn the temp to 'very cold' when its hot outside, it will blow on high fan speed trying to cool the car. But it is unable to cool and keeps blowing on high til you turn it off.

She took it to the dealer. First they said it must be a leak in the AC system. They called my sis and reported that they had found it. Then a few hours later they told my sis that the IPDM was bad.

This is the first time I'd heard of IPDM. I did some reading and I guess it could be the IPDM. I found a diagnostic in the FSM and I'll have my sis try it when she picks up the car tomorrow. But I'm assuming the dealer has already gone thru these steps.

I'm just wondering if a bad IPDM is a common problem on Muranos and if you think this may be her problem.

It seems like the IPDM is just a relay box with built in fusable links. Why did Nissan think it was a good idea to integrate everything into a single unit with irreplacable relays/links? I'm hoping there are solutions cheaper than replacing this $500 part.

PS: She also has experienced a hesitation just off idle. I drove it and felt the same problem. As you toe into the gas, it begins to accelerate, then hits a dead spot for a good 2 seconds. Then all is fine and it accelerates as normal. All this happens between idle and 2000rpm or so. Any ideas?

The IPDM is like a new key switch from what I just read here: http://www.12voltdata.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=993

I have no idea why the dealer would think its bad, But I am not sure how its linked to the Air Conditioner problem. I think your car just needs a recharge performed by a professional automotive A/C specialist.

Any Check Engine Light codes?

My sis took it to another dealer. Apparently the first dealer has a rep for ripping people off. The 2nd dealer found a problem (leak?) in the compressor. Replaced it under extended warranty and A/C works fine now.

The hesitation was fixed by switching from 87 to 89 octane. I have no idea what is recommended, but 87 octane is a no-no.

No check engine light was on...

Premium gas is recommended in Nissan VQ engines, NOT regular.

High octane gas only prevents engine ping nothig to do with hesitation. Typically dirty fuel system will cause hesitation.

These cars all have knock sensors that listen for ping and will adjust engine timing to comp for that. Running low octane fuel will make an engine ping so timing is rerarded by the computer. Result is no ping but at a little cost of less power and a little lower efficiency. Because of this I only run High octane to get all I can out of the engine. I like everything I have to be at its peak. Mind i dont run the crap out of my stuff but simply want maximum tune.

I recommend adding Marvel Myster Oil to the fuel. MMO has been around for about 70yrs. Good stuff to clean fuel system and it is cheep. Add it as directed and you will be surprised how well it works. Have a friend who use to build engines for a major NASCAR team who turned me on to MMO.
