I have noticed sometimes (not every time) when I go to manual shift and go from 2nd to 3rd I can feel a thumping sensation. I guess I'm feeling it in the gear shifter and maybe at my feet. 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th are smooth as can be. It's a single, quick, "thump" like the gear hitting into something else that's solid.

Is this something I should have checked out or am I just worrying about nothing? The car has 58,000 and has a warranty for 3 more years or till 100,000.

Let me know if this rings any bells with you. thanks, Mike

If youre talking about a thump as the transmission engages 3rd gear, its a known issue. But, the TSB for it states that it should be replicated by the technician when then the transmission is cold, and the shifter is in D.

My car does this as well, but only the first few times in the morning when its cold outside.

The solution is software update for the transmission.

I will be more aware of when this happens (cold vs. hot) (D vs. M).

I'll probably mention it to our service advisor on my next trip there and see what they want to do.

I hope you are right that it is only a software upgrade. That sounds better than a mechanical issue.

Software updates are one of the great things about the modern adaptives within the control units of many of the systems.

I must caution that you that all instances are slightly unique and require professional evaluation. If indeed your concern is software related that should not be an issue for updating.and not a mechanical component that would require more diagnostics.
