On my screen all get is audio off. I took the car to the dealer they dold me that I need to replace the whole dashboard harness. I find that kind of extreme. They stated that my radio, amp and nav control unit are good. I think it could be a couple wires that maybe bad that can be replaced.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do? please

BTW everything works in the car AC NAV etc except the radio
Thanks

Took my car in for diagnostic tech could not identify correct part number. When he could not diagnose the problem he stated that the whole car wiring needs to be replaced. I will never take my car back to an infinti dealer. Right now I need find a way to report them the BBB. I owned an Acura, their service and tech are way more knowledgeable than those at Infiniti.

Not sure what you hoped to get for responses from that post but I'll throw you a bone.

There are incompetent techs out there...any dealer has them. That you came here with 2 posts says you may not have thought to describe your problem to the folks that may already know the problem & solution.

We use this site more of a describe/help/fix place than a rant site. You can do either as you please ...but you'll get further with the former approach plus receive recommendations on what service departments are good and which are not so.

So "right now" lets have the details and get you going in a better direction.... All the details too: miles, major service, bought new or used, describe the issue, when did the issue start, what was happening when it started, major system involved, what else have you noticed that the dealer does not know, modifications done, etc. I know some info was provided in the first post but we need more.

The cabling in our cars is twisted pair like in a network cable. It would be difficult to replace just one cable. If that really is the issue then bite the bullit and replace it. Or bring a small battery powered radio into the car instead.

Msvara makes perfect sense. Imagine how many wires are involved in that harness, how many connectors are involved before reaching that harness. Now imagine how many shop hours you will pay for a tech to test each wire, each connector, hoping to find the one that is shorted, loose, or worn. Then imagine that you DID find the one wire causing the problem and fixed it ... but in 3 months another issue comes up with yet another wire and another long search to find that one?
It truly sucks to pay for such an expensive part, but it's probably the cheapest fix and it will result in a brand new harness alltogether.

Maybe relax a little. Cars are extremely complicated and these sort of issues happen with any make.

Looks more like an Internet newbie to me. Probably hasn't seen anyone's responses on either thread.

That sounds kind of odd to me as well. I don't see how a harness can go bad unless you have critters. Wires don't just go bad by themselves. Harnesses/connectors don't just go bad. They were either fiddled with too often, heat ate through it, corroded, spliced, or something. Now the electronic components themselves do just go bad. To me it sounds like one thing is not engaging which to me does not sound like an extreme task to find and fix...at least for an individual/tinkerer/techy/electrician. This type of problem NO dealer From ANY manufacturer will "fix". They will simply replace the unit...harness. Imagine a pixel going bad in your screen, do you expect them to repair the pixel or change the screen.
Personally, I think you can fix this, or at least easily trace the problem to have someone else fix it.
1/ Look up the FSM (field service manual) for the particular wire that transmits the signal needed...that is not hard, don't roll your eyes.
2/ Put a wire splice on it.
3/ connect to a VOM to the splice and see if the voltages specified in the fsm is being transmitted from the button, in the wire, and out the connector. And go from there. VOMs are pretty cheap.
If you are a tinkerer you can do this over the weekend , after maybe a week of planning.
This is exactly what the tech does, except he only checks the beginning signal and the end of the harness, this way you can check points in the wire and see where it fails and make a splice. You don't have to worry about the whole twisted pair thing or a nest of wires to search through, all wires are color coded and bundled together for specific purposes. And documented in the fsm pretty precisely. Just identify the color code based on the fsm and go from there.
Or just get the harness, and hope the tech was right. I would more bet its a component than a harness...but I'm no professional.

I think the OP perhaps misunderstood what the dealership said, or is exaggerating. That being said, it very well could be a problem with a defect in the stereo wiring. As an example, early model Toyota MR2's suffered from a pinched wire system for the rear speakers, necessitating the replacement of the entire stereo wiring.

@ kayanou, have you taken the vehicle to another dealership, or independent shop to get a second opinion? You may be unhappy with the answer you got from the first shop, but that's hardly a reason "to report them the BBB." BTW, the BBB has no legal authority, none, nada. Come to think of it, did you check on the dealership's BBB listing before doing business with them? I'm betting the answer is no. How about Yelp? Will you be filing a compliant there as well?

would like to thank everyone for replying to my post. I am just very frustrated because I cannot get the radio in my car going. Took the car from the dealer and I feel like after more that 3 days they could not also. Replacing the whole wiring harness may not fix the issue as well.
I have taking to 2 other shops and they were unable to fix it as well. I don't know if I will have to pay another dealer to look into it. Please can you guys give me any suggestion, I would appreciate very much?

The contacts in the super multiple junction SMJ can rust if the car was a flood resale.

OK, last time I'm going to ask...

Give me details to help you.... (All details)

Miles?, major service?, bought new or used?, describe the issue, when did the issue start?, what was happening when it started?, other major systems involved?, what else have you noticed that the dealer does not know?, modifications done, etc.

We need more information. English is not your first language? That's OK.

Have an English speaking friend help you respond if needed.
