Very new to this forum: This topic has been discussed here before. I am trying to find out if there is a special wiring harness for the rear reclining seats. As an expirement I purchased the setup (being delivered) and I am unsure. My 06 M35 sport did not come with the setup. There are two vacant plugs behind the upper seat and I am hoping my M was pre-wired for the reclining seats. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Don't know if it'll work with the "sport"... Reason it didn't come with reclining seats in the first place?? The rear active steer system (RAS)!! If you have the base (luxury) edition M vs sport, it should work :bigthumb: as for the wiring harness question... IDK

you are very brave for trying this - not sure about the harness so you might have to pull it out and try. Must do a write up if you do end up successfully retrofit.

Good luck!

The seats are en route. I asked the salvage yard to provide as much hardware as possible. I will keep all posted. I will document my findings.

This is what I have learned. I will add pics soon.

My 06 M35 Sport was pre-wired for the reclining seats. I did a dry run and removed the bench seats and the reclining seat frames lined up perfectly with the existing bolt(s) and bolt holes in the frame. If you have noticed the black round stickers in various locations underneath the seats those are the bolt holes for the reclining seat.

The harness which extends from left to right about halfway up the rear fire wall (only term I can use to describe it) had, in the case of my car, several vacant/unused harness plugs and the reclining seat frames plugged right in. The rear center console with all of the gadget switches plugged right in as well. What is nice about the setup, as most of you know, you can't go wrong as the male and female ends are unique so there's no chance of plugging the wrong plug ends in. The large gray vacant plug is the AV system plug. Once I turned the car to the ACC position the AV portion of the center rear console lit up. I had the ability to control the radio system from the rear so I know that works. I couldn't operate the seats because the junkyard failed to send the two control modules with the seats (see below). I have them now and will do it on Monday.

REAR SUNSHADE: Since I was in so deep I purchased a rear sunshade from the same junkyard. It looks like my car is pre-wired for that as well. I will explain: As you know if you have seen a M with the recline option there is a "kill switch" in the front center console. Essentially the whole panel which, on most M's, has the ac/heat switch, and a small cup, of sorts, isn't the same. M's with the reclining rear seats have an option to disable, I think, the rear seats (for kids (or adults :) that like to play with the seats it seems). Vehicles with the rear sunshade have a switch to open or close it as well and on some models the switch for the transmission (snow) is found there as well (a total of 5 switches with the a/c / heat). I purchased the entire panel from the junkyard as well. I popped the cup holder out to see if there were some vacant plugs to attach the new gizmo panel. What do you know, 3 vacant plugs! They plugged right in! There is a vacant plug in the trunk near the upper courtesy light and I am 99% sure it will plug right in (I will check on Monday) to the rear sunshade. Note: If you attempt this please, please, please get the rear control switch for the rear reclining seats located in the front center console from the junkyard you purchase the seats from. For some strange reason this switch, 28260-EH160, is $300! All of the other switches are around $25. Please purchase the rear deck from the same location as you purchase the sunshade as you will need that as well along with the flap.

Additional notes. There are two control modules, white box-like structures, 3x5x3/4 inch, which are attached to the back of each reclining seat. Make sure to get the junkyard to keep those units attached to the seats. They, 28565-Eh120, are around $500 each. You will need additional bolts (10 or so) to attach the reclining seat frames, 88999-EG000.

Rear DVD: I purchased the stock rear screen some time ago and it appears this is the only thing that will cause me issues. I will keep posted as to how or if I attempt to mount it.

On Monday I will take pictures of the process and try to share as much as possible. I hope all of this information helps!

Sorry for the delay. Everything went well. The sunshade snugged right up against the rear window. There are four existing bolt holes to secure it to the rear shelf. Indeed, the extra plug near the upper courtesy lamp in the trunk is the plug for the sunshade. The reclining seats are installed and work flawlessly. There is a flap with velcro which, I think is designed to cover the area exposed when the seat is reclined. I am working with the junkyard to get pictures of where the velcro is situated on the frame. Apart from that everything works just fine. The sunshade can be operated from the front or rear switches. Incidentally the rear control switch in the front center panel disables the rear from controlling the radio and A/C.

The rear DVD was a no go. My thoughts on this are there is a special sunroof frame which accomodates the rear DVD screen. I will know more tomorrow. I will post pics soon.

If you don't mind me asking how much did all of this cost you? Can you break it down by listing parts?

Cheers

3zduzit, The Bodyguard warned you about it not working with a sport, and I think this was because your profile listed that you had a sport. It now lists it as an M35 instead. Can you confirm whether or not your project was on a sport for the continuity of this thread (and potentially anyone else who may want to try but wouldn't bother because they were told it won't work on a sport)?

Which junkyard are you using and where?

For the dvd, i think you can jimmy up a bracket to hold it. That is if the wirings are all there. I'm thrilled that ppl can swap the rear reclining seats. Thats very nice of infiniti to prewired all the connections.

Finally, is there a cost that you can share?

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. My M35 is the Sport model.

As for costs your results will vary. I searched car-part.com for several weeks. As it turns out shipping is a significant factor when you live on the West coast and shipping from the East. It is difficult to ship items of this girth for less than $150.00. I found a beautiful reclining rear complete setup for $200.00 in Kentucky. It included the center console, all of the cushions and the reclining bracket setups L and R and the brain for each side (as mentioned earlier in the thread). That was by far the best bargain. The same auto yard sold me the sunshade and rear deck and front center console switches for another $200.00. Please try to get decent pictures of the material and materials before you purchase. As you can see on ebay and car-part the prices range from what I paid to as high as 8 or $900. for the same reclining setup alone. Installation, as stated, was pretty standard for me.

Please do not attempt the install the rear dvd unless you have money to spare! First of all you will need the sunroof bracket that will accomodate the rear dvd screen. Second Infiniti has multiple wire configurations which I am rapidly learning. I have purchased used wiring harnesses just to separate the part of the harness specific to the rear dvd. Now I am working on using two distinct wiring harnesses to see if my M will support the rear DVD. The balance of the harnesses and the new sunroof bracket arrive in the next couple of weeks. I will keep all posted.

BTW how do you attach photos?
