Hello,

I have an 06 M35 Base with about 157,3XX on the odo. I'm having a few odd and a few not so odd, issues and need some help figuring them out if possible.

1. Just recently noticed that when my AC is on, the car kinda jumps at idle. Almost like a misfire kind of jump. And it ONLY happens when my AC is on and I'm idling. A few nights ago, I noticed the SEL was flashing at me and I had a slight loss of power. Immediately, I figured it was a misfiring of a cylinder (I had a 2000 Maxima that did the same thing). But, it confused me because after it flashed, it went off. Didn't stay on. My Maxima's SEL stayed on and I was able to determine what it was. Am I doing something wrong in this case?
2. When driving down the road, and I hit a bump, I hear a rattle from both front tires. And the steering wheel jerks a little. Well more than a little. It just feels loose. Especially going around a corner on the express way. Doesn't feel stable at all. Not to mention it vibrates at high speeds. I've had people check this out, and they got nothing besides "alignment," which I did. What gives? I did notice very little play in the away bar links. But nothing major. Could that be it?

I'm not too mechanically inclined, so I appreciate any feedback in advance.

Marquise

Howdy.

1st problem:
I'd still try to go and get the codes read even if the light isn't currently on. There might be something stored or pending.
Just as a precaution, unplug then reseat the coil plug harnesses.

2nd problem:
Do your front wheels also hum or grind as you start gaining speed? This is likely a bearing issue

Worn, unbalanced tires could cause veering and shaking that can be translated to the car body or steering wheel - but I don't expect them to rattle

This leads me to think your strut mounts might be bad. There are bearings up there that do wear out like most things and could make funny noises when bad. When parked and you turn the wheels lock-to-lock, do you hear any groaning from the strut tower?

Ed is one of the members here who is VERY knowledgeable about our cars. I would follow his advice without question.
As for your problem #2:
I take very good care of my 09 M35 and recently, I was on the motorway and noticed a definite vibration and veering in the front end and steering wheel. I'm in the process of pilot training and it was similar to the 'stick shake' that you get when the simulator gives you a major problem. I was sure that something very big and very expensive just went titz-up. I just had new OEM wheels and new Michelin tires installed a few months ago and had a 4-wheel alignment done at that time so I was confused. Ed and members told me to check balancing and alignment but I doubted that would cause such a loss of control and ride.
The dealer told me there were no weights on one of the wheels and the alignment was 'way off'. They re-balanced the tires and did a proper alignment and now the white lion drives like new again. A complete suspension and steering check shows nothing needs servicing.

Larz is quite a gent, thanks for the kind words. I know a thing or two, because I've seen a thing or two

On his point of tires, they are the only contact with the road so any irregularities will quickly translate into your driving experience: low air, too much air, broken belts/ bands, uneven wear and flat spots, tires/ wheels out of round, imbalance (btw, it's not a bad idea to check the tire balance and suspension alignment every year)

Hey, so I went and tried to have the codes pulled, and nothing came up...

Also, no groaning when I turn the wheel lock-to-lock. I actually had the driver side wheel bearing replaced twice (both brand new) so the noise that was previously there a while back has gone. There's no groaning noises at all. Just a rattle as if something's loose if I hit a bump.

Tires are brand new, and balanced twice by two different shops. Alignment was performed the same day. Like I said I got under there myself, and was able to wiggle the sway bar links. I don't know if that's normal or not.

Okay so I had all 4 tires replaced, and the vibrations at 75+ kinda stopped. But the car still kinda follows the grooves and bumps. Doesn't feel stable going around corners and I still hear the knocking/rattle when I go over a speed bump or hit a crack or something.
