I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere, but I am looking for the easiest, most basic solution to either stream mp3 from my phone via bluetooth, or install an aux-in to plug into my phone and play music straight from there.

My 06 doesn't have any plugs behind the armrest, and it doesn't have any packages or satellite readiness whatsoever, unless the most basic ones did and I just don't know where to find it in the boot.

Apologies to anyone annoyed by repetition, I just haven't been able to figure out the easiest way. I see lots of solutions that seem much more extensive than my needs, but all I need is an aux-in and a way to use the factory head unit to accept it.

I don't care if it doesn't show the song names or artist names, I just want to plug my device in (not an ipod or iphone), and play from the device over the car speakers.

Thanks in advance for your kind information. I am coming from a 2002 BMW 325i whose head unit was one generation behind an easy aux-in mod, and I didn't investigate this too thoroughly before I bought the car, since I've always loved the M series and when I found a 2006 with under 50k miles in pristine shape for the right price I had to jump on it despite the missing packages.

This should work for you:

NOTE: Image 2 shows stereo RCA inputs, so a 3.5mm to RCA adapter would go from your audio out / headphone jack on your phone to the unit, and give you audio over the Factory system.

You can use the USA SPEC PA15-NIS model if the vehicle is compatible with the PA15-INFI but DOES NOT have SAT receiver or if it's NOT pre-wired for SAT. PA15-NIS's functionality is 100% equivalent to the PA15-INFI. PA15-NIS connects to the radio where as the PA15-INFI connects to the SAT receiver.

So in other words, if yours is wired for, or has satellite radio, you would want to use the PA15-INFI. If it doesn't have, and is not wired for satellite radio, use the PA15-NIS.
