Hey everybody! I'm obviously new here and decided to go to the best forum for my car out there....seems to be this one. I have an 06 M35X and have rolled 90,000 mi on it. I bought it with 62K miles and really haven't done too much in terms of maintenance to it(not sure what was done prior to owning it) other than the religious engine oil change at 3k mi. My car came with all manuals except the scheduled maintenance one. I looked up the manual online and I ran it all the way through 120k mi under the Sched 1 maintenance criteria as it fits my driving the most. No where did I see a replacement of any fluids other than the engine oil such as the transmission, differentials, transfer case, etc. and I never saw antifreeze change or spark plug changes either. It all says to inspect them...is this their way of saying if it looks bad replace it but there is no exact mileage to do so? Either way, at 90k mi it still runs strong (love my Infiniti) but every now and then on start up (cold or not) it just started to drop in idle (like it wants to stall) before it kicked up it's normal full idle where it usually fires up high right away before stabilizing. This got me thinking maintenance and I'm a bit lost with what I should do by 90,000mi. Can anybody tell me when I should or should have changed the transmission fluid, spark plugs,antifreeze,front/rear diff fluids (if I have a front one being AWD),or transfer case fluid (if I need to with my AWD)? I know many cars don't need plugs or antifreeze change until 100k mi but maybe this isn't one of them? Thanks so much for any info.

Oh....and I have been replacing the air filter too. Brakes are also good as I replaced them fairly recently when the rotors were warped.

I would just talk to a service representative to find out the proper mileage for those items. It doesnt seem like many people get some of those fluids changed at all. It was recommended to me by my dealership to replace the rear differential fluid at 90K. Spark plugs should be changed around 100k miles as that is the spec for pretty much all spark plugs.

Thanks! I did call my dealership and they recommended plugs at 105k, but transfer case, front and rear diff, and transmission fluid change every 30k.....they said even with their "premium" service doing everything they just suck the fluid out and replace it instead of actually pulling the covers off and replacing gaskets etc which is good for me because my front and rear diff pans look like quite a process as they sit right up against large structural items. I changed out all those fluids except the antifreeze....should do that every 2 years I guess but ran out of time as my battery cashed out (knew it was on its way out) and I had to deal with that too. Just out of curiosity....anybody with my engine (3.5L) have oil consumption issues? I burn a full quart by the 2k mark after every oil change....I add 1 quart and it gets me to the 3k oil change mark.

I have a 2006 M35x, but about half the mileage that you have. So far (touch wood) I haven't had to add oil between changes.

I have not seen any M people with oil consumption, but I heard that the G35 is known to consume oil a lot. With the M's all you hear about is the M45 with oil consumption. And even with the M45 I dont usually see people with a whole quart gone by only 2k miles

go buy the coolant flush additive and OEM coolant from online store and flush it yourself. the procedure is simple. actually come to think about it, all these procedures are pretty simple, just somewhat time consuming for first timer.

i would do the coolant flush, brake flush, all the diff (front and back) along with spark plugs. you've already doing the oil so that's good. new filters are always welcome. also run through a bottle of techron on your next fill up. if you can, run your car to the very last possible drop, then pour the techron bottle in (the big one) fill up the car and run. do that twice to clean our the fuel system.

you should do your belts as well. again procedure is simple, the sucky part is gauging the right tension so the belts don't squeal or squeak.

that's pretty much it for maintenance. everything else that you see people doing here are just extra simply because they're enthusiast and they want every ounce of powah out of the car.

good luk

Thanks everybody.....helps a lot. I definitely do not have blue smoke coming out of the pipes but the oil is being used. I don't get it although I'm not too worried about it yet. I simply add 1/2 to 1 quart of oil and keep motoring on. It still drives incredibly nice/smooth and has tons of power/response. I have been using this amount of oil in between oil changes since I got it at 62k miles and the consumption hasn't gone up....still the same.

I have a 2006 m35x which has about 98000 miles on and I absolutely love with a couple of exceptions: this care is heavy and hard on brakes... depending on your driving habits. Also it does tend to consume about a quart or more of oil between changes if you go 3000-3500 between changes. Keep a frequent check on the oil level so that you don't let it get low.
* flush and change transmission fluids, rear end as well.
* go ahead and change the plugs.
*check prices on service between the infinite dealers and the nissan dealers.
