SO, I have an 06 Altima SE. I take care of my car, don't be on it, keep up with my maintenance right, well, a week ago, I am driving home from work and my engine cuts out on me. have the car towed to my mechanic and he looks through, come to find out, my engine ceased. now, mind you, I just had my oil changed about three weeks before this happened. The car is only three years old and has about 69,000 miles on it. i go to the dealership where i bought the car and in form them of my situation. They ask for the car to be brought to them and for me to get as many service records as i can together for them. I do as they ask , and when i get a call back, they are telling me there is nothing they can do because i have a 15,000 mile gap in service records but other than that my records are consistent. Anybody have any ideas as to what i can do to fight this? I know that the warranty expires at 5 years/ 60,000 miles but there is no reason a well maintained vehicles engine should cease at 69,000 miles, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did the engine overheat and die? Is there oil and coolant in it?

What was the farthest trip you took in it since the last oil change?

Most dealerships (read 99.999%) are smarmy bastards and I will never support any of their businesses unless I absolutely need to order a new OEM part. A 15,000 mile gap in service records is a blink in the life span of that motor. If they're going to use that as their arguement, I'd be extremely pissed.

Where was the gap? How many oil changes had they done between this "gap" in records and the engine siezing?

Try another dealer. We have had much worst stories and still warrentied motors. A couple of months ago, a customer brought their Versa to us. Had 22000 miles no oil change has been done, EVER!!! No oil, knocking, Im LMAO in my bay. After they said they were goin to warrenty it, i wasnt laughing anymore.

Do you have a extended warrenty?

just a funny story

So the motor doesnt spin over? Has a loud clunking noise when you try and start it? Try and spin it by hand.

With a half inch drive rachet and a 19mm socket on the crank pulley. You dont have to take the wheel off just turn the wheel to the right. The pulley should move, and give you resistance on the compression strokes of each cylinder.

Keep rotating the crank pulley. If you can, start looking at voltage drops in the starting circuit.
