My dad bought a '06 eclipse a month or so ago ( boy she can move.) He replaced the stock muffler with a highflow K&N muffler but doesn't want to throw it away because the stock muffler is brand new. He comes up with the crazy idea of welding the eclipse muffler onto my S14 stock exhaust. Now before my dad decides to play frankenstein here I thought I collect a few thoughts on here. I mean I'm in no way shape or form expecting gains here but I was wondering if what might have been considered a high flow OEM muffler for the eclipse (a 6.8 liter V6 I believe) could actually be restrictive on my wee 2.4 liter engine. Any thoughts?

MAN! 6.8L on a FWD V6! WOAH!, sounds like a lot of torque:) /sarcasm

i believe all stock exhausts are restrictive to make the exhaust not sound loud, it'll most likely be as big as your stock exhaust diameter wise, if not then not any bigger.

yes the new eclipse is a 3.8L Mivec(vtec knockoff) V6

well, it does almost same thing as vtec, variable valve/cam timing type thing like VVT, Vtech, VVT-i and some others, each named differently, some are just for economy, others are to "up" the performance.

yeah Mivec, Vtec, VVT-i, and I forgot what the Nissan was called but they all are the same thing basically. Variable valve timing systems to get better power. also yes I'm an idiot the eclipse motor is 3.8 liter. thats still a huge *** sport compact motor hand down

I find it funny that he said "boy she can move" referring to an eclipse lol.

The GT weighs 3538lbs... with 263hp (V6)The GS weighs 3307lbs... with 162hp (I4)

Could you imagine trying to drive around the GS.. it would barely move lol... what a great power/weight ratio.

btw.. what would be the point in changing mufflers? If you don't want a gain, then leave your exhaust system stock.. If you want gains, replace the whole system with something larger.

It would basically be for the look factor. also if you haven't actually driven an eclipse don't knock it. those 06's are pretty fast. I love RWD but I gotta tip my hat to this years eclipse. well any way I take it no one is going to give me an opinion on the actual question I asked so whatever I'll just do what I do then..... thanks, I guess

i wasnt very impressed with them either. it had a fair amount of low-end, but just too much weight to really move. to me its a girl car, just like the 3g.

^ agreed. its a fine entry level sports car for the daily highway commute, it would be uncompetitive in any other type of driving. thats why i laughed my *** off when they had that commercial on tv for it where the other cars "bow" to it. if its supposed to be "king of the imports" or whatever the gay slogan was, why dont they offer it in japan?

the last good eclipse was the 97 gsx.

lol i've driven a few eclipse's and ... they feel like boats to me.. I mean come on, why do they make them weigh 3500lbs? 260hp in most any other import would be fast.. crazy people... and poor rx-7 having to bow down to it in that commercial lol.

Well I like it. I get what everyone's saying about the weight and what not but y'aal gotta try out that '06. it's like an import muscle car with that big ol' engine in it. anyways thats just what I think about it. Like I said I love RWD but if I had to go FWD I'd take the eclipse over the civic si (and maybe over the integra type R)

the new si comes straight from the factory with a respectable track setup and a nice lsd.

the integra type-r walks on the new eclipse with minimal modding.

like i say, its nice to have that power on the freeway but youre pretty much screwed when it comes to any other kind of driving.

i actually just went through the same thing finding a DD. ended up picking up an rsx type-s . it definately lacks the instant power of the 4g, but more than makes up for in handling, fuel economy, and build quality. im not used to not being abused while driving.
