I have owned my 6MT sedan for 6 months now and I have been enjoying it. Terrific car and it is a head turner. I had it 3 hours before I was being seduced into playing with others pulling alongside

But I have had some issues with the clutch. It seems that the clutch is extremely difficult to engage. It seems to almost bounce off the flywheel as if there is not enough power behind the clutch to engage the flywheel solidly.

Seemingly related to a difficult clutch is an issue with not being able to "feel" the engage point with the flywheel. Is this typical. I have driven 5 speed lower powered vehicles for 17+ years now and never had an issue with engaging a clutch ever. I have driven the lesser powered 6 speed BMW 330s and that clutch is very similar to what I have experienced in the past, the clutch engages closer to the floor and from the initial contact to the full engagement the pedal does not have long to travel to get to that point. In the G the clutch seems to take a LONG time from first touch to engagement and the full contact comes with my knees up around my neck to get it there.

Is there a way to make the engagement of the clutch shorter and closer to the floor with some kind of adjustment or does a "clutch kit" have to be installed to adjust how the clutch action works?

I have been reading out here that the infinitis have had transmission issues and what not and was wondering if this is a typical clutch feel or is there a problem with my clutch in particular.

Thanks for any help.Steve

there is an adjustment rod that will let you move the engagment point closer to the floor, it still has a crappy feel to it even after adjustment tho.

I think its due to the dual mass flywheel...Does anybody know why they are better than a normal lightweight flywheel?

yes. Stock position is just retarded. If you feel like making the car more comfortable to drive lower the seating position too. There is a stopper nut on the height adjuster rod under the seat you can move all the way forward to let the seat go down lower. If you adjust the clutch and seat it feels better to drive.

I have a 03 6MT coupe. I've driven manuals all my life and have never been hard on clutches. I just heard from the dealer yesterday that some drivers are getting only 7K miles per clutch and the most is 35K miles on a clutch. Does this sound reasonable? I agree, the clutch releases way too far off the floor. He said its because the clutch is worn and can't be adjusted. I paid big bucks for that bad advice. What mileage are you guys getting out of clutches?

Thanks for the advice. I will look into the adjustment. And for the seat tip. I have wanted the seat lower since I bought it.

But it seems to be more than just a feel. Do you get bounce off the flywheel?

I just spoke with a non-infiniti mechanic and asked him if he had heard of an adjustment I could make and he asked me what my symptoms were. After I described to him that it felt like a lack of engagement pressure and a bounce he said it sounds like a bad pressure plate.

Now I have driven cars to over a 100,000 miles without a clutch so I know it is not my driving. But if what someone just replied to is true and they expect clutches to only last 8k miles I will be getting rid of it. I love the car but I am not going to replace a clutch every 8k miles. The milage on my car is 8652. But the issues with the clutch have been there since I brought it home.

Thanks for the help. I will let you know what infiniti says about the clutch.

Steve
