06 18" G35 Coupe Wheels On 08 EX

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I was looking to upgrade from the factory EX 17s which I now have my winters mounted on so I picked up some used 18x8 30 Offset 7 Spoke Rims off a 2006 G35 Coupe with TMPS Sensors. Inspected the wheels carefully before purchase and although the tires were staggered (F 225/45, R 245/40) the only other difference is that wheels they were mounted on are marked FRONT and REAR. I know that the spec tires for EX on 18s is 18/225/55 so I also ordered Michelin Primacy MXV4 in this size.

The garage was hesitant to mount the tires on the wheels since they were marked FRONT and REAR and assumed they were staggered wheels. So we measured the backspace and looked at the size and offset markings and sure enough it was all the same. I was pretty comfortable at this point to ask them to mount these wheels on my AWD EX. That didn't work out as planned since the garage tried and failed to inflate the mounted tire (both "FRONT and REAR") on the new rims.

First question does anyone know why these wheels would be marked differently if they have the same spec?
Two shouldn't these tires fit on 18x8 wheels, or was was the garage just as incompetent as they seemed.

Many thanks

my guess is the wheels are marked for convinience - since they were made for different size tires on the front & on the back. With tires mounted, you'd check the size once at the time of mounting and then on it's easy to see which is wich.

That's what I thought too, but the garage thought it had to be more than that. Anyhow the wheels are now mounted, by tire shop who needed to use something called a donut to get the tire on the wheel. I really like the look of them, more aggressive than factory rims but still very infiniti and no messing with spacers etc

wonderful that is what I wanted to do also. Did you use the five spoke split 18's?
do you have a photo of your car to share?

No I used the 7 spoke 18". As far as I know only that model range of G35 Coupes have non staggered wheels ( although tires are staggered). The other bonus of sourcing from those model years is that the TPMS sensor is identical part # to the one in the 08-10 EX35.

I must admit though the tire shop had some trouble inflating 225s on those wheels even though the original G35s fronts were 225 and according to tire specs 225 should should fit on 18s . They ended up using something called a donut (rubber ring) which is placed between the wheel and tire to close the gap until the tire takes air, at which point it pops out. No pics at this time, I'll try and post later, they look factory but more aggressive which i like alot. For the record the Michelin are a fantastic, they really smooth out the road, way better ride then the OEM 17s that were on there when i got the car.
