If you mean updating the maps, then yes, you just buy a new DVD (or go to the dealer to get your hard drive updated if you have an 08+).
Also, please fill in your location and car details in your profile so that we know what you have and your general geographic location to help you in the future. As always, please search.
From what I remember seeing, it's not cheap. You have to pay for the software + the labor as opposed to just buying the DVD on the older cars for $120 or whatever it is. I'm thinking around $220 or so. And only the dealer can do it from what I remember.calidoso wrote:How much should it cost to update a HDD on an 09 M35x at a dealership? Or any other placed recommended?
I've been around a long time and although I've seen folks install NAV into non-NAV cars (since the car is pre-wired), I have not seen anyone upgrade the entire system from an existing NAV system. I'm assuming that plugging in an 08+ unit into a 06-07 car will be harder as the harnesses are different (different wiring for the HDD, etc.).valerit1 wrote:Thank you! Thanks!
Excellent point sir! Now that I have an 09 M I will have to buy the updated NAV at NavTeq to avoid dealer mark-up, and then pay the dealer update my HD every time I want the latest version.pedsemdoc wrote:Plus, with the DVD based system, if you're lucky one of the members on here will sell you last year's DVD for much cheaper, like Larz, who just sold his 2013 disc for $50!!!
Can't do that with the hard drive based system.
