I am in the market and looking for an infiniti M35 either 2006 or 2007 I came to ask a few questions.

1) Which one is more reliable and why?
2) Any common problems with either year?
3) Does it take a certain type of oil or gas, and start to act up if it isnt right?
4) Coming from an Acura/Honda car which is cheap/reliable how pricy can the parts get and how often do they break?
5) How often do you floor it and have to pay for it with a check engine light popping up after?
6) What is the AUX input situation for the M for an iPhone or samsung to play music through price wise?
-Is there anyway to just add a new Bluetooth system to play it through the car

Would like to purchase an M, but my backup plan is the G35/37.
Would the G be cheaper for parts and reliability, and just more fun to drive in?
Is MPG close to the same?

Thank you :)

I can't really help with the comparisons. I just traded in a 2003 Avalon for a 2006 M45Sport. Plusses: Power, exhaust sound, interior ambiance, availability/interchangeability with Nissan parts.

Things that I didn't/don't like: My Avalon had Nav, the sport didn't, but I was able to get the components and install OEM nav for about $200. The dashboard vinyl cover is delicate and subject to cracking. The seat brackets/motors are the other problem. The back of my seat won't go up and down and I've found out that it's probably a broken bracket mentioned throughout this site, but something I didn't notice before purchase. The sport also has low profile tiles. Look great and handle nice, but be prepared for a not so cushy ride with this option. I only put high end premium gas in this car, a 50 cent per gallon premium over what the Avalon took

Welcome to NICO!
The 06/07 model years are the same body style, engine, gear box, and trim. They are essentially the same car.
I owned a 2007 M35 until last year when it was totaled by a drunk driver. It had nearly 100,000 miles. It had every option aside from the rear seat theater option and everything worked like new. It had no oil consumption, great acceleration, and it drove and performed perfectly with a great ride quality - no squeaks or rattles. .

Common problems: none that I am aware of
Fuel: 93 octane - though others here have used lower grades, Infiniti 'recommends' the higher octane.
Repairs: The only actual repair it needed was a starter after about 90,000 miles - the starter relay did not disengage, killing the battery. Since I purchased a warranty with the car, that starter and the battery cost me just over $100 instead of $600.
Engine check: I have never heard of flooring it anf getting a check engine light in any car so I can't help you there.
AUX: Remember these cars are approaching 10 years old and technology was not where it is today in those years. There are after-market options that you can install yourself which will provide newer features to match today's tech.
MPG: All of these modes (even newer ones) average between 6-19 mpg on regular non-motorway speeds. My 07 averaged 17 on surface streets and 24 on the motorway.

Repair costs: Every car will have expensive repairs regardless of the brand. Infiniti repairs are probably even higher compared to a cheaper car with less features and lower performance.
The key is regular oil / filter changes and proper maintenance of fluid changes, etc. If you race this car, abuse it by driving like a maniac, and ignore regular maintenance, it will cost you a fortune in repairs. If you take good care and do not abuse it on a daily basis, you can expect great reliability and fewer repairs.

As for the Inifiti G models. They are smaller, lighter, with much less refined interiors, but are also great cars. MPG is higher, but not alot higher. They have a more harsh (sporty) ride quality and are also very reliable if cared for properly.

Where to buy: I know you did not ask this, but Carmax. Why? I have purchased two Infiitis and one non-Infiniti from different carmax shops and all 3 times I had a great experience. I am currently looking at an Audi for the lovely Mrs, ready to pounce when the right year / model appears at a Carmax shop near me. The main reason I highly recommend them is the lack of a processing fee, and the optional warranty. Their warranty is the most complete one available - it beats the Infiniti warranty hands down by covering many more items for up to 120,000 miles or 5 years from date of purchase. They cost about $2,000 give or take and they can add the cost to your loan if you like. I paid cash, but was told it would add about $30 increase in monthly loan payments. I can take my cars to any Carmax shop and pay NO deductible, or take it to any Infiniti dealer and pay $50 deductible per repair. I just did a search for the model you like and found this:

**** I am NOT associated with, paid by, or any sort of rep for CarMax - just a very satisfied customer. A few of my mates have also purchased from them and are just as happy. ****

Just to clarify your warranty math - you have pre-paid $2,000 for warranty covered repairs - if nothing else breaks when the warranty expires that's how much your starter cost you.

On my 2009 M35x, before the 120,000 mile mark, I paid approximately $500 for one wheel bearing. Even if that was covered under warranty - that warranty would have been a very bad deal in my case.

You are absolutely right. I did not recoup the money I spent for the warranty. Think of it as insurance - you pay thousands of dollars a year and get nothing back. I also have a warranty on my 09 M that lasts till 120,000 miles or until Sept 2019 (currently I'm at about 30,000 miles). I haven't had any repairs on the 09 yet. However, every time I read in here and elsewhere about 'nav screen,' radiator, air con, transmission, etc. I am glad I have that "insurance" and I don't regret NOT needing it because one big repair will put me in the black. It's a sort of crap shoot, like any insurance. But one other thing - this warranty transfers to a new buyer for whatever remains at time of sale / trade.
I see your point and I agree. I would never buy a warranty on a TV, mobile phone, or any appliance. By the time they break, I won't want it fixed for free - I will want the newest model with more features. I just see cars differently.

I ignored this thread last week because I thought it was old. Sorry.

I'll answer your questions by number where I have solid knowledge that I didn't see when I skimmed the previous answers.

3) The 45 requires premium per the manual and indicates that lower grades can be used in an emergency with gentle driving (IOW regular could damage the engine). The 35 is fine on regular but recommends premium for top performance (IOW it's tuned for premium, but regular is fine).

6) In an 06/07, I know there is an aux input if you have the tech or premium package (there may also be aux input the base and/or journey packages, but I don't remember). The aux input is 3 RCA jacks (Red = Right Audio, White = Left Audio, Yellow = Composite [Analog] Video). These jacks are hidden in the back of the console with a button to pop them (and a 12v power outlet [cigarette lighter]) out. With any music playing device, there should be an analog output for music, so all you need is the right adapter, which should not be very expensive. I have seen some complaints that there is noise in the aux because the wires aren't shielded and go by some other components, but I have not experienced that noise at low volumes.

-Search regarding Bluetooth, various people have various experiences with various devices. This will be more expensive if you can do it.

Vinny,

might want to check this thread out:
post6569333.html?hilit=m35 problems#p6569333

like Larz stated earlier, the '06/'07 are essentially the same car. Might want to get the one with more options, fewer miles, right color combo, etc.
Truedelta is a site that counts the number of unplanned visits for repair work and lists the problems that owners have had with their vehicle, not helpful for newer vehicles because not enough data...But is pretty good for older models.

Overall the VQ/M35 tends to be a rock solid engine.
However, I have an M45/VK engine.
My overall sense, having seen most of the posts, but don't have actual numbers to compare, is that the VK engine seems to be more at risk for the oil consumption issue. My M has NOT had this problem - knock on wood...

I would ask to see maintenance records which you should be able to get if dealer maintained.

Look on eBay for parts, a couple of dealers usually have decent prices (Circle Infiniti is one that sells some stuff for waaaaaay cheaper than my dealer) but you should shop around.

good luck and let us know if you pull the trigger on one.

BTW, you ought to look at the classifieds on this site - some folks have got some nice rides and you can usually tell who really takes good care of their cars. You could get a really good deal. (you won't get the boss CarMax warranty like Larz, but you could always buy an Infiniti Elite one)
