Hi, Does anyone know if the 06/07 m series has an override feature for engaging the navigation/dvd player while in motion?

Old thread i know but i was wondering why does it show two wires coming from the harness if there's only one wire to be tapped into? Also do you need two wires to tap into each wire? As for grounding it do i need to tap into the harness run that ground to the switch and have all that connected to a ground on the car?

are you telling me that you're going to attempt this mod now? come on MEX, i'm expecting more from you :)

assuming you have the DPDT, you're going to see 6 poles total. find the common ground by testing it with continuity on your multimeter. now you're going to need two wires because one is going from the original plug to the switch and one back from the switch to the plug. for example, you cut the pink wire, you're going to have two wires; one end goes to the switch and you need another wire to go from the switch back to the plug.

you know what, drive up to CT, buy me some wings and beer and i'll hook it up for you :D

yeah this has been on my to do list for a while and a friend of mine finally convinced me to get it done. I never used my NAV before on my car cuz i had the old disc and dont own an Ipod. Well I got the new 7.5 navteq a few months back and am thinking of getting an Ipod or a zune, I usually use CD's and i am barely getting into the whole MP3 scene. To me they are a rip off to buy but i think i will just get a used one so that i can play videos and movies in my car. Neway thx for clarifying that portion of my question, what about the ground wire? If you were closer i would just chill and drink beer with you while i do my hack, I dont like other people touchn my car when it comes to mods i can do. :bigthumb:

you pull the glove box, and some side interior plastic piece, you should see a big a** 12 or 13mm hex nut with some black wire. that's your ground, just unscrew the nut and twist your ground wire around that.

if you find any video player that can play dvix let me know. i'm looking for one that play dvix so i don't have to convert them to dvd. also i'm assuming you're going to run the rca Y/R/W to the jacks by the center console and if so, the only screen that video will output is the middle one by the passenger? is that correct? i don't think the front screen will show video. correct me if i'm wrong.

Ok for my last question, why run two wires wouldnt you be able to just split one wire into a Y and connect the two leads on one side. If you have two individual wires running to the same ending point they would be electrically the same so why not just run one wire and split the wire to contact the switch leads where needed?

i'm not sure if i follow your last question but why don't you give it a try and report back the result. to me it's best follow a proven method but if you have something up your sleeve, let us know.

None of the wires have the same end point though...

I used Cat5e cable for the mod when I did it as it has a bunch of wires inside to use, and the mod tutorial suggested it. You are cutting the two wires from the plug and going into the switch on one side. Then you use another pair of wires from the other side of the switch and go back to the plug, on the other side of the cut you made. Thus when the switch is off, it doesnt complete the circuit. When the switch is on, the circuit is complete and electricity flows normally to the sensors. A y-cable doesnt make sense for how this works. I really dont think it would be possible to use one.

Also, I couldnt figure out how anyone would easily route the cable to the center area. I called another member and he suggested I just leave the switch (like he did) in my glove box right next to the trunk's on/off switch.

i used cat5 when i did this but i strongly suggest those who's going to do this not to use it. just use normal speaker wires. if you are going to use cat5, make sure you don't bend the soldering points otherwise the wire will break off.

thats exactly what my co-worker told me. You cant make the Y connection like i was thinking. it's been a while since i was taught DPDT and SPST, etc, etc in tech school but me and my co-worker started thinking about it and now i understand the schematic (if you want to call it that) that ohmster made. I was gona mention this when i got home, so thanks for clearing things up.

Im sure if you just take your time and carefully read all the directions before starting you will be fine. I used the cat 5 wire because it helped me to keep all the wires together in a clean manner so that i could make the hack as stealthy as possible. As for location i wouldnt suggest using the glove box because you have to open the box anytime you want to flip the switch which wouldnt be fun while driving. Many people use the center glove box which would be ok but not optimal and others use the wallet holder compartment behind the seat heater/ac. Here is a link to where I put mine and some tips that might be helpful to ya like what website i bought my switch from etc. I put mine in the cigarrette lighter slot which im aware wont work for everyone but for me it was perfect. It looks real clean, its easy to get to and easily hidden and can be reversed in a matter of minutes without making a permanent hole somewhere. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions, i just did this about 5 months ago so its still sorta fresh to me.
