I just changed all the filters on the black beast (air filter, charcoal cabin filter, both seat filters) and I thought I'd share a great deal on the air filter. It's at the Sawgrass Infniti's Ebay store and they sell the OEM filter element for $18.88 with free shipping. They are located here in Ft Lauderdale and this is the same element and part# that my local dealer (Lauderdale Infiniti) charges $32 for! Shipping took a few days, but it wasn't like an emergency, so that was fine by me.

I bought 3 - one to use now, and two to place in my garage (to likely get lost before the next change, LOL).

Here is the link, in case you lot want to stock up. I know these can be had a parts shop for less than $18 but they aren't OEM Nissan elements. Sawgrass Infiniti has other OEM parts on sale on Ebay as well and I assume those are also sold for much less than standard dealer prices.

The seat filters can be had here: ($18 each)

The charcoal cabin filter can be had here: (2 for $20)

Cheers!

I use the exact same filters for the "Silver Surfer". I got them from another infiniti dealership online. Green air filter for engine, charcoal filter I got on amazon (FRAM) for the cabin air filter and partsgeek for the seat filter only for drivers side. I think I also bought some Infiniti touch up paint as well since no one else carries the color code for my car.

I made sure to knock off some of the loose carbon that was on the cabin air filter before I installed.

I was looking into getting the K&N filter but after some research, i read that the oil used in the filter eventually, after some time, will get through and possibly damage the car?? Didn't know how true that statement was but I don't mind changing the engine filter 2wice a year.

I read similar issues about the K & N filters. Apparently that oil "could" react poorly with the MAF sensor. I would never use K & N filters anyway since I don't fancy washing and re-using filters. I want a clean, new, virgin filter every time I change it.

With the heat the cotton guaze expands slightly and the oil becomes dislodged. It could get into that small space and coat the IAT and or the MAF sensors. My thoughts on engine air filters is this, how does a company create a more free flowing air filter? Increase the space between weaves. That means additional air and dust enter as well (Please don't confuse the issue by stating that the oil creates a barrier because although it may appear that way in reality it only creates a barrier within the cotton itself. If it were a complete barrier then air wouldn't flow right?) The more dust that gets through the air filter the more the oil and gas become dirty during the combustion process and eventually a buildup of this becomes sludge around the valves, pistons and could eventually lead to oil passage blockage (esp the tight spaces).

Any way you argue oil based air filters it always ends bad.

does the entirety of the seat need to get taken out to replace the air filter within? not feeling brave enough to start pulling this stuff apart by myself, it may never get back in properly.

It took 2 mins for me. The filter is underneath the seat, almost directly in the center. Just put the seat forward and feel for it.

If you look at the DIY section, someone has step by step directions with pictures. Very easy.

Seems like with heat ( in dryer) my cotton tightens not expands?

Just my 2 cents.

Not sure what you're on about, mate. But if you're concerned about steam or heat, I was too back when I first learned about it. But your seats aren't cotton - they're leather and steaming them isn't dangerous at all - if done properly:

Detaiers and used car dealers have been doing this forever. I use leather cleaner and dressing every month and I steam twice a year. Works great on carpet as well. Click on my sig pic and see the results.

Actually you're right cotton does compress with heat. The fact still remains that the k&n filters are much more porus than paper based. If you prefer the K&N brand they have paper based filters that do not require oil as well.
