While my car was being fixed at Lake Norman Infiniti for 1 full month to get the SES light to stay off, I asked them to please check the spark plug chambers to see if oil was leaking in and if so please replace the cover. Was told they were going to remove them anyway in the process of what they were doing.

I was told that on mine, they can replace the individual gaskets as opposed to replacing the entire cover with a new one.

Is this true??

Rich, sorry to see your poor luck as of recently with the Gs.

If I recall an earlier discussion I think Poyzinous set me straight , that although it looks like they are replaceable they are part of the interior baffles and are only replaceable as a unit. It's pretty easy to pull the rear coils and look for oil.

You said you had a P0011 in the sedan and they tore the chain off huh? That sounds like you've got yourself an interesting problem there. What did they determine was the root cause of your Intake Timing Issue. I tend to ask to many questions when it comes to other techs diagnosis, I should stop here. But mechanical failures are pretty rare in the VQ.

I read in another thread you asked if a timing chain R&I would alter your engine. This is not a job for a noob but it is pretty straight forward. I have had my share of engine taken apart (more at Nissan but a few Infinitis) and if it's done correctly the engine should be fine. I would look at it when you get it back, keep an eye out for an fluid leaks or anything out of the ordinary.

The crew at Lake Norman stand behind their work and you should be in good hands don't stress it too bad.

Good Luck stay positive and there is nothing wrong with the G37 in either sedan or coupe form, very very fun cars.

Thanks SteveI've replaced plugs in the 05 sedan that I traded for the coupe, so it's not bad to check for leaks. However, sounds like I was fed some bs on the replacement of the spark plug chamber gaskets as I thought.

The guy doing my engine had been at LKN for 2 years and was the 'tech foreman'. Very nice and very professional when I spoke with him.

Have the G back now and very happy (knock knock) with it!!!!

Almost pulled the trigger on a new G37, but the sales staff at Lake Norman Infiniti really treated us badly. The Sedan is 4 sale now on craigslist. If it sales, we'll get a G37 from Modern Infiniti!!!

The G37 sedan really appealed to the wife with the upscaled lux!!!!However, IMHO our G36 is more of a driver's car. Better road feel even though it has less HP.

If you have any diagnostic details could you share? I'm very curious but I feel like this is a touchy area.

I really have to agree with your statement about the true drivers car experience, as the way the old rules were. The acceleration and interior refinements with the model upgrade really make for an unbelievable ride, and if you get my favorite option (Drivers Audio Stage) you should not be disappointed.

Nice pointed blow to the salesman at LKN. A given sale walked out the door, that is their worse nightmare. It only takes a second to blow a deal and tarnish the reputation of a region leading dealer. Oh well such is business.

They never told me what caused the issue! They do not know.

I can scan in the list of parts, but they were told by the 'Infiniti Tech Line' to replace anything on the engine that was hydraulically driven by oil. (what I was told).....or any o ring/gasket.Will try to remember to scan in tomorrow.

I find that very strange since this will only happen on neglected and abused engines and I know you are pretty meticulous about maintenance. It is also usually seen on FWD vehicles (less airflow around the engine). What was replaced when you were in for this before? I know this is not the first time in for this, a major overhaul is a last resort in more cases and almost always involves intervention from Tech Line or a DTS.

Chain tensioner was replaced several months ago.Started up the engine and sounded like a push rod was beating on the valve cover! By the time I got to the dealer, there was no sound. They kept it, and evidentally, it did it again the next AM, cause they replaced it.

The Tech did comment on how clean the inside of the engine was. Got pics in another thread.

They did say they were replacing the cam sprockets (intake) due to them being variable. But, again, they were replacing anything that could have caused the code since they didn't know for sure what the deal was. Initially, they thought it was the y bracket. Tech said oil pressure was good at 80. Also said the oil pan was clean, no shavings, sludge or anything.

I saw your pictures in the other thread. That is an impressively clean engine. How many miles are on it?

After the tensioners are replaced/removed they take some time to re prime. During which they make a hellatious noise. However I have only seen this happen once on a car that was in good working order. In order for the tensioners to be rattling you would need to be loosing oil pressure somewhere in the oil circuit. Although noisy I have never seen one jump timing but with something like this is always better the aire on the side of caution.

I have only seen the above mentioned bleed back happen on an I35 and never a G. I guess until now.

Have a beer on me today.
