If it has a belt I would look at the pulleys associated with it for indications of belt slippage. Purchase a belt kit, clean parts well and install. if it doesn't have a belt then check for a posible bearing issue associated with the drive. Inspect the laser and lense for a foriegn object such as dirt or residue. Clean with denatured alcohol without getting into any area that may have glue, do not upset alignment.
Check for tacometer circuit. There may be one present to indicate the speed of the drive motor.
Look for problems with the mechanism that senses the presences of a disc. Sometimes there are two but usually only if there is a door present. Depending on supplier such as Clarion (common) for example you may be able to buy replacement parts far cheaper than the dealer.
Consider an aftermarket replacement if it is toast depending on your desire for OEM type of integration.
