I have a g35 coupe auto and I was trying to launch it the other day and while I was pressing the brake and gas it would only rev to 2000 rpm. Is that a saftey or is it governed? And that's y it's doing that?

Dunno about the '05 but my '08 won't allow the car to rev up when the foot is on the brake either. One guy put a toggle switch on the brake sensor to get around it when at the track.

Wouldn't that throw a check engine light tho? I know on my civic it did when my brake sensor went out

nope...it just bypasses the safety system. The manuals had the same BS. This is one of the reasons why I sold mine...

yeah infiniti didnt want to ever end up like toyota's run away cars LOL. im able to brake launch under 2k RPMs without a dead gas pedal at green light. but once you go pass that 2k RPM... you will be dead at the line for a second, even with VDC off. I do kinda wish when you turn VDC off that it would be 100% off. It seems that when you press the VDC off button it just ups the limit before it will kick in again.

just found out this... if you want to go to the "dark side"... lol... you can completely disable the VDC system if you put a switch on the YAW sensor wire, which is under the arm rest center console. This will keep the ABS system intact but put the VDC system in fail safe mode. the "SLIP" light on the car will stay illuminated until the YAW sensor wire is reconnected and car is power cycled.

another way to put the the VDC in safe mode is to throw off the YAW sensor. I noticed that when i was at atlanta motor speed way and i sat on the high bank of the curve too long my VDC would go into fail safe mode; as it thought the car was flipped on its side lol.

this has been confirmed on other forums where people report actually being able to do a standing burnout in their Gs when at the track.

I wonder if this can be done on the G37 or is needed.

yes i have a g37 and have had my VDC in fail safe mode many times by mistake at altanta motor speedway, its just a matter of interupting the YAW sensor.
