My 05 Frontier Crew Cab (4x2 non off road) needs a new axle assembly and my mechanic keeps striking out with what is sent from the salvage yards. Apparently the 05 model had quite a few different axles and they aren't interchangeable? The axles they send do not fit (problem with yoke). The mechanic is ready get a new one (almost$3000 just for the part!). Apparently Nissan doesn't sell the parts to rebuild-only the entire assembly. I just need to rebuild the differential. Any advice? Thanks!

hm.

First year of second gen.

Got any casting #s on it? Thought they were all the D44 variant, but the 2wd truck might have a C200. Both would have a similar bolt pattern on the cover.

Best bet is to look at the axle code in the door jamb equipment sticker and match that to a truck in a junkyard. That way you now you're gettting the same thing.

Thanks so much for your advice, Desert Rat. The axle code listed on the door was wrong. Although I'm certain there is a salvaged axle out there, neither me nor my mechanic has been able to locate it. Unfortunately, after a week and a half of looking with no success, I was forced to buy a new one. Not the route I wanted to take, but it's time to get back in the road. Thanks again for your response.
