I had my 05 Q45 (54K miles) towed to the dealership today because it would not start.

Background:

Went to the gym this morning, 23 miles commute to the naval base to work out. After 1 hour workout went to stick key fob into the ignition and it would not turn to the right to start the car. I even removed the metal key and tried it in the ignition, the car would turn over but not start, I'm thinking the immobilizer is out of sync with the car.

Once car was towed to the dealership they told me that my immobilizer module was faulty, at least that's what they think it is, they couldn't understand why it wouldn't start. The key was re-initialized and still no luck. They siad the (expensive) part will be here tomorrow, I guess we will go from there.

Has anyone experienced this on any year Q45? Luckily the car is certified up to 100K.

Mike

Doesnt the immobilizer disable power to the starter motor? If so, then the starter would not even crank at all if it was due to the immobilizer kicking in or not recognizing your key.

I agree qship, they are just replacing ignition components until they get the right one, jusy my opinion. The service manager even stated that she didn't know if this would work but she had to try this first.

Well as long as it is under warranty, I say good for you.....let them throw as many new parts at it until they finally pick the right one!!!!Nothing like a dozen overpriced new electronic modules installed on their dime.....just extends the future need for replacement when it finally comes off warranty!!!!

When my Q was brand new and until the 7 year 100k warranty expired I visited the dealer at least once per month for 7 years. There was always something I could find after learning to read and studying FSM in detail.

I just offered to pay if the suspect part was within oem specs only once or twice did I pay in 60+ visits other than normal wear and tear items.

The point is if you look hard enough with accurate enough test equipment you can ALWAYS find a defective [out of spec] part.

Nissan stopped putting many specifications and parameters into FSM to reduce warranty costs from people like me.

Hey got my car back yesterday!!! It was a faulty immobilizer control module. The module went bad and it didn't recognize the codes in my key. The total for the repair was $300. I didn't pay a dime since it was under warranty.
