Turn on ignition and loud clicking behind passenger dash commences.
Adjusting the heat direction knob can also illicit clicking.
Clicking stops, heat comes on, then fades and eventually comes on.

A google search suggests some auto door mechanism failure and a not so easy fix.
probably not a DIM project.
