Car: 2004 Nissan Sentra SER spec V

Post

Hey guys, i have a couple questions about a newly acquired project of mine. Im a Honda guy so this car is fairly new to me. i picked up a 2004 Sentra SER spec v with 100k on it. i was told it needed a new motor due to severe overheating. it was already partly taken apart from the shop that diagnosed it before i picked it up. I decided to just pull the engine and trans. first question, if i where to get a replacement engine, I would be looking for a 2002-2006 altima 2.5 or obviously another spec v 2.5? is this correct and is there any differences between the two? power output looks to be about the same. nest question, if i do put an altima engine in, will everything work as it should? variable valve timing, all sensors, ect...? next question, im trying to remove the flywheel and trying to figure out exactily what tool i need, looks to be a polydrive?? if so what size? lastly, what is this whole car worth right now as is? trans good and body is in fair condition. thanks guys

The sentra section of this site is very slow. Most of the ppl that try to help just pop in once in a blue moon like me. But dont be fooled, there is a large sentra community on the net.

To answer your swap question i believe the answer is yes. I know of ppl with b15(02-06) specs that have had engine replacements with altimas of similar years. Just make sure that it is a pre2007 engine. 07+ qr25's have been reworked for the better, but have different mounting points and i am pretty sure will not bolt up to the transmission. You can also get an b15 sentra ser(nonspecv) engine and it will be the exact same. The only difference between the ser and ser specv's is in the ecu tuning giving the specv more power.

So to summarize, i am pretty sure the altima engine can be done. As long as you can still use the spec ecu, you will get all of your power.
