My Sentra 1.8s sometimes takes at least 5 seconds of cranking to start if the engine is warm (usually if I park and come back an hour or two later to drive again). It's especially bad when its in the garage. It always starts pefect when cold and runs and idles fine. Has 115K miles, spark plugs were changed at 105K, and I regularly clean my KN filter. Any insight as to what could cause this?

What year? There was a fuel pump issue with some of them. Call your dealer and have your VIN run to see if you're in the affected range.

It's a known issue with at least B15s '00-'06. My '06 started doing that about a year into ownership.

It is a fuel pump or related issue and I am not sure I've heard of a permanent fix yet.

Does the hard starting occur when the engine is extremely hot?

@A2V No, it happens when the car has been sitting for an hour or two.

@ everyone else: I ran a diagnostic on it and no codes came up. I did go and call the dealer and had my vin run. No recalls or TSBs, but they did say it could be the fuel pump or crankshaft position sensor. Both of those items happen to be covered under a seperate waranty to 150K miles. Unfortunately, they want $96 just to look at the damn thing

Probably best to err on the safe side and eat the diagnostic fee, unfortunately. Either that or wait and see if it gets worse.

Ok, was in the shop and got the diagnosis: bad fuel pressure regulator. $540 to replace this s***.

That is ridiculous.. I believe the part is probably a little over 100 bux if you buy OEM and much less if you want to chance another brand. Even using Nissan parts, the total cost seems way to high for me. If that is the only thing wrong, I would buy it myself and take it to another shop to install - most likely no more than $200 parts and labour.
