I just bought an 04 g35 sedan and this is my first post. I'm looking for a cat back exhaust and I want it too look as similar to original as possible but still offer a throatier sound and hp gains. Any suggestions?

Are there any good (cheap/homemade) alternatives to the stillen catback? I know about the coupe midpipe, but has anybody had any luck from a free flow muffler or straight pipe for this section of the exhaust?

Someone has a sig here on NICO... that says something like this...

"That's like saying..I want to get laid.. will a 200lbs crackwhore be ok for 20 bux?"

Don't cheap out... you bought a hawt car... if you can't afford a decent exhaust yet... keep saving until you can.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be cheap. I just think with the stillen catback exhaust, the bang for your buck just isn't there. I was just hoping for a better value.

In reference to the crackwhore comment, I don't want that. I just want to find that one hot drunk girl at the end of the night that is ready to give it up. Maybe she has already left for the night or doesn't exist, but I'll still look for her!

Catback on this car isn't cheap, plain and simple. For the big names, you will pay about a grand (stillen, borla...) Their are others out there that are less expensive like Tanabe which is about $500 but I don't hear people rave about them like the stillen. Stillen claims over 20 HP with the sedan exhaust and I wouldn't doubt it. They seem to be accurate with their numbers and every one that runs it raves about it. If you can't afford cat-back get a used coupe mid-pipe which will probably be good for a few HP and better sound ($100 est). As far as all mods, their is better bang/buck like a plenum spacer or intake. But for exhaust, HP per dollar for is going to be better or at least as good as any other (probably because stillen is actually dual exhaust).

I already bought an injen CAI. I heard good things about it and am hoping it produces good hp gains. Anyone know what kind of hp gains that the CAI would provide? Any dynos?

Problem is, at the end of the night, you've still paid as much or more in alcohol as a decent looking whore (since were making analogies here).

Nissan/Infiniti apparently went through some trouble getting the tuning of the exhaust right on these cars. The aftermarket hasn't had an easy time making good power out of them. Making power with exhausts used to be simpler, but as most of the companies who released exhaust systems for these cars with decent power gains went through some trial and error to get there. IIRC, Stillen had some 5-6 versions they went through on the coupes and 350Z to get the results they do. So your not simply paying for the materials. Exhaust components are not too expensive. You are the premium for their time in R&D.

I guess I'll be looking for a midpipe. I searched on here and the 6mt site with not much luck. Are there any other good sites to look? I've had loud exhaust cars so I'm trying to keep close to the stock exhaust sound this time. I was just trying to get rid of that huge exhaust box under the middle of my car.

Thanks for all the help and I dig the forum! I"ll post some pics as soon as I get my car cleaned up (looks like its part of the nooby initiation).

The coupe midpipe is a great mod! Just ask around for people who have put on an aftermarket system. I sold mine for $120 + shipping a year ago. If you really want one now, you can buy one from everythingG35.com for $270.

goneracin,

There is an e-bay listing for a coupe muffler so I asked if they have the mid-pipe. They said yes, and asked me to make an offer. I will tell them that I am asking for you and you will contact them. The e-bay item is 320218893952 and the seller name is chinesekid998. Let me know if you need any more info.

Sweet. Does it make an even more rumbly sound to the exhaust on the sedan? How much power do you think it produces? 3/4HP?

I'm not sure about the HP but it does change the sound quite a bit. Makes it sound closer to the coupe (pretty good bite at high RPM).

He must like you better. I sent him a message on ebay about it a couple of days ago. Still haven't got a reply. I guess I'll try again.

Thanks again for your help!
