Hello,A friend of mine is having problems with his car. As stated above, it is an 04 Sentra SE-R Spec V.

P.S. The car has a hot shot header and full Nismo Catback exhaust. Car currently has 70,xxx miles on it. The exhaust had been on the car from about 10,xxx miles until like 60,xxx without any problems or engine lights.

Read below for good information ! Please help!

Ok, current situation on this car.

Code is P0031 - Heated oxygen senson bank 1 sensor 1 heater circuit low voltage.

We installed a brand new Nissan OEM 02 sensor. Light comes on after second key cycle.

I have battery voltage (12.5 volts) at blue / red wire which is power to heater circuit. I cannot get a ground from the wiring harness at all. No ground with key on or key off. Next step we are going to take is trace the wires back to the PCM and check for open / short circuit for ground.

Is there a time when the PCM won't provide ground to the circuit ? I tried with engine cold and engine hot and still no ground at all.

Tested for resistance in heater circuit inside new 02 sensor and it is about 4.5 ohms with is within spec according to the All Data info we got. The Napa 02 had 10 - 15 ohms depending on temperature. This made sense to us to ditch the Napa 02, since if it has high resistance then it will have a low voltage return to pcm.

Is this possibly a bad pcm not giving ground when needed ? I guess I can't really rule out a bad connection until I get a t-pin to backprobe the sensor when connected (make sure good connection when plugged in, no loose terminals or poor connections). And I can't rule out open / short in ground wire until I test resistance and continuity in the wire from the 02 connector to the PCM. I still feel like I should have ground all of the time somewhere in the four wire connector going to the 02. I Don't have ground from the 02 sensor case to any of the pins on the sensor connector either, so I can't imagine that ground comes from the engine block. And yes, when screwed into the manifold the 02 sensor case does have good ground.

We are testing that on Saturday in my parents heated (woodstove) garage. Any info or thoughts are appreciated.

Does anyone have access to the Nissan Front 02 sensor heated circuit diagnostic procedures for this car? I can provide a VIN if needed.

In case anyone is following this, car is fixed.

PCM was bad, not giving ground when necessary. Covered under 8/80 Federal warranty.

Well that's good to hear. The ECM supplies ground when the conditions are met. I know on the G20's they only ground (making the heater a load and not just part of the circuit) when the car is going <43mph for <2minutes.

It's just the nature or the beast, I'm glad to hear that they didn't try to bust your stone have a non Nissan exhaust on the car, even though most of it is.
