Hello - I have an 04 Q45 that Infiniti has diagnosed with the vsc/abs control module being shot - so I have no cruise control (icc).
They want $1600 to replace - but they are not sure it will fix the icc ...

Any ideas on buying a rebuilt one or finding a used part ? How hard it is to replace ? Does it need to be re-programmed after being replaced ?

Thanks for all help !

tHE Control modules are like small computers, you not going to find them 'rebuilt'.

YOu could do a search of ebay. for one taken off of a totaled Q. Have you ever used the FSM Field service manual? I would download that and do a little reseach.
Is anything else uot?

No - from what I can tell everything else is looks to be in working order. Is there anyway to test the part before putting on ? Or after installed ?
I'm trying to figure out how I can tell if everything works with another part ... ?

Does this price include parts and labor? You can try www.InfinitiPartsUSA.com to see if they can offer a better price. If you decide to purchase a used part make sure they offer some sort of refund in the event the part doesn't work. Worse case scenario is to just leave the mofo broken.

Yes - that included parts and labor. I really want to use the cruise control - but on top of that I'd like to also have ABS brakes working ! I've been looking around for a used ABS control module w/ICC but not having much luck. I have found some regular ones (without ICC) for around $400 or so.

Anyone know if using another ABS control module (maybe from a M45 with ICC) will work ?

Thanks very much for all help !

I had a similar issue with ICC not working. Instead of taking it to the dealer I guessed the range detector stopped working since it is exposed to the weather. I was lucky to find a wreaked Q not far from work with a detector for just $150. The part new is greater than $1000.00. On ebay it can be had for around $600 used.

The only indication I had trouble with ICC was when I tried to turn it on. There would be a yellow cruise light that indicated trouble. Unless you have other lights on, VCS or ABS, I strongly recommend trying to find a used detector online or at the salvage yard. It is a pretty easy install minus a few rusted bolts.

Hate to say it, but I {and many others} cant wait for these units to fail {and glad the repair is priced so high many owners will not fix} because Infiniti was dumb enough to use the same frequency of laser that the police use, causing every radar detector owner to get a false laser speed alert from their radar detector when one of these Infiniti vehicles is near by......

Well ... I was told that once I replace my ABS control module, my ICC should start working.
That said, I really just want/need NORMAL cruise control. I don't care to have the ICC but apparently I don't have a choice - is that correct ? You cannot just turn off ICC and use normal cruise control - correct .......... ?

Sorry I read everywhere a while back. You can't turn off ICC with the push of a button. If you are good with electronics and have the tech manual you could trick the car into thinking the range sensor is working and no other vehicle is ever in front. When cruise control is on it looks for a signal from the ranger detector among other things. ABS does not directly feed into the ICC system according to the tech manual.

Do you have any lights on the instrument panel lighted while driving? I don't have a lot of faith in technicians/mechanics when it comes to electronics.

No lights on at all. I set the cruise and the light comes on saying CRUISE - but it never sets. Infiniti diagnosed the problem as the ABS Control module being bad... Apparently a used module was put on by the previous owner... So maybe it will just stay this way who knows...

Valq,
I misunderstood, so your abs is ALSO uot. correct?
Do you have a FSM. Several sections have self-diagnosis not sure if that is one of them

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/2004_Q4 ... 45/acs.pdf

read thru this....there is enough detail in 106pages that the tech should know exactly what isa needed..

ask what tests he ran

You are more than welcome to craw back to that DEAD FA forum you moderated to extinction if you dont like it here......lets face it, you only came back here because the FA forum sucks so bad....... McScrews, if you dont like my post, dont read it.....it was not directed at you anyways......believe it or not, it is not all about you.....same piss poor attitude you had when you left last time. Fact is, the laser cruise is a menace to every enthusiast driver on the road who uses a radar detector in the USA.....the designer should have known better......it has nothing to do with the cima f50, all Infinitis that use LCC cause false laser warnings to every detector on the market, jerk.

I get those false laser hits from every Chevy Trailblazer and BMW with neon tail lights as well - but it's not so bad since it's an alert that something is stopped in front of you. More of an annoyance sitting at a stop light.

Most electrical parts are "no return" items once they have been installed. I think I would push the dealership to either stand by their diagnosis or take it back if you pay them to install it. If you can't get a repair made there without them throwing parts at it then where can you go?

Hey - does anyone know how to run an instrument cluster test (for all lights/gauges for working condition) ? I'm looking through the FSMs and haven't been able to locate any information on that. This is for a 2004 Q45. For some reason, I just noticed my ABS / VDC / Brake do not light up when the key is placed in the acc/run position. So I'm wondering could all of those be burned out ???? Doesn't look right somehow....

Thanks.
