Was looking around for a performance chip for my truck and can only find two. I see 4x4 parts sells one for the 04 year and Jet has one. Any experience with either. Are there any others out there. I was hoping one of these may give a slight boost in performance or MPG.

I would be interested in knowing as well. I used to think they were bogus but then experienced first hand results (in a friend's VW Tiguan- it freakin hauls butt).

The JET module listed on the 4x4parts.com website is a bad idea. That module is really a generic module which is used more for data monitoring than for performance upgrades. The module listed on 4x4parts.com is for ALL Nissan V6's made from 1990-2008; it's not very specific. With that kind of range you really won't see great improvements and it's probably not worth $275.

The other computer upgrade on the 4x4parts website is also kinda sketchy. You basically pull the ECU from your car and ship it to them so they can reprogram the software. The website lists no guaranteed gains and the description is extremely vague. This upgrade is probably equivalent to a 2 degree timing advance. Also, you're basically relying on your butt dyno to see if you got your moneys worth and after being without your car for a couple of weeks i'm sure it will feel like you gained more power.

Let me also point out that with the newer model Pathfinders (any model with a MAF sensor) you do NOT need to reprogram your ECU for engine modifications. If you install a CAI or exhaust or anything of the sort the ECU can adjust itself or you can make adjustments yourself without any special tools.

I see with the Jet that have a chip and they also have what seems to be nothing but a monitor. Not that I would do this, but it sounds like really to get anthing out of a Path of this year would be go stand alone. Has anyone looked at what things can interchange between Z's and G35's? I wonder if any of their performance mods or chips will work on a Path?

The only ECU tune I would consider is the one from UpRev:

http://uprev.com/index.php

They were featured in a recent issue of Nissan Sport Magazine. They are one of the few who can reprogram late model Nissan ECU's... no piggyback computer, it's a true ECU tune where the original programming gets changed/flashed.

Currently they have tuning maps for the Frontier... it shouldn't be all that difficult to get a Pathy tune.

The one from jet chips has a picture of a dyno on the website. Its SUPPOSED to be 10hp increase, but if you look at it the low range power is where it helps a ton! If the dyno is an actual dyno. Idk about the manuals but the automatic ecu kills the power band prior to 3500rpm, when flooring it you can feel the difference at that range, and after 5700 i think to ease the engine acceleration before it reaches the rev limiter. The a/f mix is better in between that range, and im sure the power valves help a lot too. If the dyno they show is a real graph from our vehicles, and the power increase is actual, i would say its well worth it. Plut the extra supposed 1-2mpg increase.
