Yesterday as my wife pulled in the driveway our 2004 Xterra 4WD SE just died as she came down the hill. ALl of the lights came on the display. It was really wet and raining, now it will not start. It is cranking but will not turn over. I checked the coolant and oil. They are at correct levels. It sounds like the fuel pump comes on when the key is turned. I have no idea what to do????? Any help would be great. It was running great and there were no odd noises or smells. Only has 80,000 miles on it.

Maybe a crank angle sensor or something. Did you check the ECU for codes? That would be my first step.

I would sudjest you call the dealer and check for recalls.also is check engine light on before this happen? There could also be a issue with relay in ipdmr our your fuel gauge may be wrong and you ran out of gas!

Towed it to a mechanic. Turns out it was the timing belt. Luckily my wife was coasting down the driveway with her foot on the break. If it had been 5 min earlier on the highway the whole engine would have been junk! Only ended up costing $300 for him to replace it and check the engine out for damage.
