04 Murano Oil Consumption

Hello,,, I am new to this site but have been a Nissan owner since our 1995 Maxima SE 5 Speed... What a great car,,, We traded it in for our current 04 Murano AWD witch has been a great car also... Both of these car were driven by my wife,, the Maxima had 160,000 when traded in for the Murano...

The Murano is currently at dealership where it has been serviced since purchased there new... It is getting checked out for the check engine light ,,, clicking and knocking noises in front end turning and service...I have checked the code and cleared them and light came back... we get 0420 for the 02 system and cat system... The engine has been using a lot of oil lately and some puffs of smoke however this time of year it is hard to tell... It uses about 1 quart to every other tank of fuel,,, about 750 miles give or take a few...??? This seems like a lot ???

I expected that muffler at 5 years and 85,000 miles,,, even the 3 sets of brakes were not out of the ordinary for our driving...

Even if it was just the cats going after this mileage is not totally out of the question... or is it ????

The oil consumption is a concern for me,, If there is a pending piston ring or valve job around the corner,,, well I would not consider that to be expected...

Have many other Murano owners had oil consumption issues and what type work was performed for the repair ???

Have many other Murano owners had to replace the cats in the exhaust system at or around these miles??? and if so were the cats clogged due to the excessive oil consumption ????

Or did the cat burn out due to excessive heat ???

What other issues can I expect from this car... ????

You did not mention how many you have on your Murano however if it is high you could expect to start having problems. My '04 SL has around 85K miles and so far no problems, still on the original brakes. I do use Mobil 1 oil changed every 5K miles and have put almost 200K miles on engines using this oil without any oil consumption problems. Maybe other owners with high mileage can give you a better heads-up on what to expect.

Our current Murano is pushing the 94,000 mile mark.. I had it at dealer who changed oil and started a oil consumption test,,, I must bring car back to them to have oil checked,, If any oil is needed then will adjust level and document how much oil ,, how many miles and so on...

I am a dealership employee and know that 1-qt per thousand miles will be called normal consumption... I have kept up with all of maintance suggested and I guess I may have expected more mile before have anything happen...

The 3.5 engine is a good performing engine and the CVT trans is a great combination....
