Sorry if this isn't the the correct forum to post it in, I can't find a strip/street sections, but:

I have an 04 G35 coupe 6mt and my buddy wants to throw in a little wager. He has an 01 2.7T 6MT. If I win he puts a big "HONDA POWER" sticker on his back windshield, if I loose vise versa. What are my odds here? Is it a drivers race, or do I have the clear upper hand. (I just traded in my 01 A6 2.7T but I had an automatic transmission)

I do want to make this clear though: I am no punk kid who likes to race everyone and their mom. I take very good care of my cars, and I plan on babying this one. This is just a gentlemans bet haha..

Thanks guys!

Welcome to NICO!!!

We don't have a street/strip section. Street races are...not recommended.

Why is it so hard to find specs on Audi's and why the hell do they offer so many engines for the same car?

I see 8 engines in 6 years.

Based on Wikipedia (only available resource), It sounds like the 2.7t puts out around 230-250hp.

The 2000 A6 2.7T did 0-60 in 6 seconds with the manual and 6.6 in the auto.

The only thing he has on you is AWD and tons of torque down low. I'd suggest you practice your take offs with VDC off before you take him.

Just remember that you put almost as much power to the wheels as he does to the crank.

Take it to the track to begin with. Street Racing posts don't usually end well here because it's such a DUMB *** THING TO DO.. b ut your not a punk *** kid so you already know that.

Go practice your launches out of 1st gear. You said in your other thread you weren't used to that.

I tried that, it shaved a few tenths off the 1/4 mile.

I agree! The German cars have low end torque, and by this, if you don't have the heart, you may feel depressed before you get to the end of the track, as they will almost be ahead of you. But not to worry, their torque peaks out very quickly.

I once went at it with what seems to me to be a modified Ford F-150 truck. Before I could take off, he was gone. The initial torque he had was impressive. However, I did not loose faith or hope and still went at it. Guess, what? All his torque was tapped out before he knew it---I beleive this probably happened before 5,000 RPM in the truck, and my g was just beginning to gather steam as i came by and passed him on the top end since my G's torque is great between 3,000 - 5500 RPM. I spanked him close to the end. When we got to the next light, he asked me what I had in my engine. I told him it was lightly modified. He was surprised at how a car he dusted in the beginning could come from behind and make him look like he was standing still. The G is very capable on the mid range to top end RPMS. Some where in the beginning and absolute top end, it seems wealk or out of steam. Of course, this is for a G with mods.

Again, I agree that learning how to take off in first gear in a G is a must, and if you don't know how to do so with VDC OFF, please, please, and please, stay away from even trying to wager with you friend. If you have the wrong or worn set of tires, with VDC OFF, and with little experience, the G can kill you. Just a word of wisdom.

I generally tend to raise my RPM to about 3,000 RPM with a half clutch release, and then a total dump, when i want to take off very violently. Most times, I just take off normally.

You should be able to take him... The Audi is heavier with less power...

Let us know the results

Jacko,

The torque I was referring to was because the A6 he is referring to is turboed and I read that torque peaks at 1,850 rpms. I don't feel that way about the bimmers I've driven. They actually seemed to have very little torque down low and only started to feel faster when the car was going faster. I feeling I'm not very fond of.

Sorry I know the last couple lines don't make sense, but a torquy car allows you to feel your take off more than a high hp with little torque.

Hello,One thing to consider is whether or not your friend's A6 has been chipped. With turbocharged engines, the increases can be profound, often at the cost of long term reliability. When I purchased my M, the A6 2.7T was on a short list. The problem, to me, was lack of power. Do recommend taking this to the track.Cheers,ML

Well I took a 2005- 2006 A6 like two days ago!

a base 3.2-liter V6 with Quattro and 255 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque

This is Per Edmunds

The thing is if its an auto... from a stand still the quattro will bog the motor down and not allow for wheel slipage! and even more so with a trubo before it spools!

You can rev your motor to 3k rpm and dump the clutch! If you can make it past 2nd with no shift errors you kill him!

I beat an auto and with a god WOT lauch i shot out infront of him and he never even was able to pull back up next to me!

I would say my sedan is 310-315 hp at the crank. But then again the sedans are faster than the FAT coups

It may peak at 1850 rpm but holds it all the way to 5500 rpm. VW/AUDI have a very flat and broad torque band.
