Sentient:
I agree! The German cars have low end torque, and by this, if you don't have the heart, you may feel depressed before you get to the end of the track, as they will almost be ahead of you. But not to worry, their torque peaks out very quickly.
I once went at it with what seems to me to be a modified Ford F-150 truck. Before I could take off, he was gone. The initial torque he had was impressive. However, I did not loose faith or hope and still went at it. Guess, what? All his torque was tapped out before he knew it---I beleive this probably happened before 5,000 RPM in the truck, and my g was just beginning to gather steam as i came by and passed him on the top end since my G's torque is great between 3,000 - 5500 RPM. I spanked him close to the end. When we got to the next light, he asked me what I had in my engine. I told him it was lightly modified. He was surprised at how a car he dusted in the beginning could come from behind and make him look like he was standing still. The G is very capable on the mid range to top end RPMS. Some where in the beginning and absolute top end, it seems wealk or out of steam. Of course, this is for a G with mods.
Again, I agree that learning how to take off in first gear in a G is a must, and if you don't know how to do so with VDC OFF, please, please, and please, stay away from even trying to wager with you friend. If you have the wrong or worn set of tires, with VDC OFF, and with little experience, the G can kill you. Just a word of wisdom.
I generally tend to raise my RPM to about 3,000 RPM with a half clutch release, and then a total dump, when i want to take off very violently. Most times, I just take off normally.
