like the title says my moms '04 3.5 V6 Altima is having shift lag (it's an automatic). What I mean by "lag" is that after one has accelerated and then let off the gas or eased off it takes the transmission a few seconds to shift into the next gear. I'm just wondering because I want to try and save money by fixing the problem (if there is one) early before it develops into something more costly. Thx for any advice.

Probably nothing you can personally do to "fix" the problem. For some reason, the 4sp auto's have shift lag in some situations and it seems relatively easy to get it "confused".

Anyway, if she has high miles, you can have the transmission flushed. If it is under warranty still (I'm sure it is) I'd take it to Nissan and have then validate it is OK.

There is a tsb about harsh shift from 1st to second that may or may not illuminate the Service engine soon light. If here car is still under 60K miles or 100K if she bought an extended service contract it is covered under warranty.

yeah, but it is difficult to get that fixed. I tried to have mine "fixed" and Nissan simply said they could not replicate the problem.

Bout the only way to ensure you have no downshift problem is with a WOT switch.

This TSB applied only to 2003 to 2005 4spd auto trans units

Interesting. There was a TSB released for the '02 Maxima for similar issues. I believe the "fix" was a ECU re-flash.

I know which one your talking about that one had a couple different repairs. one was to replace the shift solonoid pack. If that didnt resolve it then you were to replace the TCM. That one was for 00-02 I believe. I dont have my security key plugged in at the moment so I cant fire up asist and verify but I believe thats the one your reffering to.

Nah, not necessary. If it does not refer to Altima's, it's not gonna help this guy
