04 Altima Front end cracking noise strut area

2004 Altima SL –front driver side in the strut area, I hear a cracking sound when I turn the wheel left or right. Also I can feel it when I hold my hand on the top of the strut and have someone turn the wheel. The dealer wanted to change the struts, top bearings and something else for $800.00. I took it to a trusted frame shop. They suggested I change the left top bearing $90.00. We did this and the noise was reduced but not eliminated. Now the cracking sound from the turning of the wheel is intermittent. I hear the noise but never felt it in the movement of the steering wheel.The Frame shop said it was not affecting the alignment; the front end was solid and was not a drivability problem. They said I should wait until it gets worse so it can be diagnosed.

Any suggestions?
