Hi,

I'm looking at a few G35's (4 door and both 2 & 4 wheel drive) and want to find one with relatively low miles (less than 50k...the less, the more desirable) for about $17k give or take a few grand.

I was wondering a few things.

1. What is the average cost of owning one of these cars per year? I know they don't get great gas mileage, but I'm more concerned about maintenance costs since the warranties are probably expired on these cars by now.

2. Is $17k-$18k about right for an 06 G35x with about 45k miles in good shape?

3. Does the AWD version tend to have more problems than the 2WD vehicle?

Thank you in advance for any insight that you can provide. If you have any other buying advice for me, I will gladly take it.

Base warranty is 4yr/60k. Drivetrain is 6yr/70k. A 06 G35x with 45k miles will still have 15k of full warranty available.

Welcome! I have not heard of any problems with the all-wheel drive cars vs. the two-wheel drive ones. The G series is relativly inexpensive to own, with usually only regular maintenance to worry about. Some internal electronics can be quirky depending on the year. (03-04 G35's have a crappy stereo head deck that can fail). Power window and seat motors are pretty common in the early gens. The 6MT can also have issues, but generally if they happen, the happen early in the car's life and are fixed under warranty.

I would go with the newest model you can afford. Big changes to the sedan in 07 and coupe in 08.

I have owned my 2004, for 2 weeks now, and its already looking to be a bit expensive to own...lol just a window motor is almost $200. and btw, right when I bought mine it had window problems on both sides... so beware of this issue,it is very common I have noticed....then to get it installed, another 40 - 60$... other than that, mine seems to be pretty good, and not that bad on gas either, I drove it for 3 days on a half of a tank, and I drive alot... usually on my other cars I would have had to add some gas in the process.. good intake - $550
Exhaust - 1200 - 1500$
Intake mani - $200 - $400
Headers - $500
Supercharger or Turbo kit - $5000 - 7500...
Parts like this are expensive if you want to fix the car up, very expensive, I came from a 240sx that could go with a 500$ ebay turbo and run for 2 years or so and be ok, and exhausts and intakes being cheap lol.. id usually slap a ebay turbo for like $60 on it and go, but I wouldn't do that with this car, don't want to mess something up or cause any kind of failure cuz it was a $13000 car... definatly dont want it broke down. Sorry to rant about the prices but just letting you know, look into it.

parts are not cheap, but from a maintenance perpective there is rarely anything that goes wrong with these cars.

2003-2004 headunit suck and can go bad
2003-2006 vehicles are starting to show age with wheel bearings
2003-2006 compression rod bushings tend to go out and will squeak when they do (like an old mattress)
2005-2006 REV-UP (6MT) some have a known oil consumption issues (ring problem)
2003-2006 Coupe window motors can go out

those are the main things to watch out for, nothing too crazy
parts can generally be found used/much cheaper if you know where to look as well

Cars that are more expensive, usually the mods also go up in price to match...I would not use an ebay turbo on your G!

1. It is a Jap. car lol! the VQ engines are some of the most reliable on the market. The only thing I had to spend money on my G35 was maintenance and upkeep. light bulb, window regulator ect...

2. I <3 Rwd it gets more power

3. Never drove the AWD version :inout:

i put a hard 54k miles (at least 6 track days) on my old 2005 g35x (trade in at 72k miles). besides regular maintence all i had to replace was brakes, tires, warranty rplacement of fuel dampers, and battery.

ive put a hard 45k miles in a year on my 2010 g37x (including 3 track days) and its just been regular maintence, warranty replacement of the driver side door arm rest, tires, and i just did new brakes.

you do regular maintence on these cars and they treat you right.
