Just got my 2003 Xterra (3.3L V6 Automatic ) back from dealer recall service (the one to address possible corrosion in the steering column joint). They replaced the column shaft and joint at no cost.

In doing the normal 25 or 30 or 35 point inspection they noted the Timing Belt needed to be replaced. I'm at 106k miles, os its due. I know dealer markup is outrageous but they quoted the job at $1,576 total -(includes water pump, tensioner, other belts). Service guys say this is because most of the front end, radiator, etc needs to be removed to do the work.

A quick call to a local import auto service shop and I got a quote for $638.

What is reasonable?

thanks

It is reasonable sadly. They aren't lying when they say all that crap needs to be taken out. If you take it somewhere local it will most likely be cheaper of course, but make sure you read reviews on them and see if they know what they're doing.

Check prices at a few Nissan dealers. I had this work done recently and prices varied. I paid just over $1000, included all drive belts, new water pump, plugs and cap/rotor. The highest price I got was $1500.

Honestly I would hit the FSM section and tackle this job myself. There is a lot of useful information contained on this site and in the FSM. Lots of people to help you too. I bet that half the dealer quote is labor only.
