Hey Everyone, Looking for some advice as to what to do... i just bought an 03' spec -v 8 months ago and am already on my second check engine light, I have extended car warranty but id like to be more educated when i have to deal with the a**holes at the dealership. Car had just under 48k miles when i bought it and within less than 10k miles the check engine light went on and i took it in and they had to replace an o2 sensor and my header cuz the precat went bad. I have read somewhere that they had problems with the precat getting sucked back up into the engine causing engine failures but i am not certain how true this is, although since ive had it replaced its been less than 10k miles and i already have another check engine light for same emissions code but this time i have noticed that my car is burning oil at a moderate rate ( abnormally quick for any car) and also after about 5.2krpms it makes a wierd shuttering noise as if its cutting out or miss firing but i dont notice any difference in performance. Please throw any advice you may have my way. Thanks much

i worked at nissan and replaced quite of few of the 2.5 engines its prettey common for 01 to 06 to have that p0420 code i would just take it back again if its buning oil its going to break up the cat and suck it back into the engine its just a matter of time. if they didnt change your cat the first time they swaped (wich isnt uncommon) then you will have the same problem stay on em the 2.5 can be good but if it is a bad one your sure it wont hit 100000

It's entirely true. It's a known recall. Nissan owes you an engine. Check out the "sticky" thread at the top of Sentra General for the full list of 00-06 Sentra recalls and trouble spots. That way, when you get your new engine, you can avoid them (namely, loctite the butterfly screws and get a header on there before you burn up another precat).
