Hey, I need to put a new engine in my 2003 Spec V, i have around a 3k budget, what is my best option? Should i just have my engine cleaned out (there are metal shavings through-out) and put it back in. Or should i have it cleaned out and put in bigger cams and what not and make it faster? OR i have heard that a couple of different engines will fit in my car, such as the SR20DET, What about the VQ enigine, will that fit? Or should i put a supercharger on my current engine after it is cleaned out. Thanks.

dont believ the sr will fit in the 02 up specs, i do know they use the mr20 in the b16s.

as far as a budget you can get a motor for a good price especially if you do some digging, mine was 1800 with 30,000 miles on it including shipping from some company in FL.

if you got metal shavings in it though, id check for pre-cat failure x.x the qr is known for it!

oops. plus if you got metal shavings your going to want to get it into a machine shop to make sure your cylinder walls arent scored. if so could be worth a build :) just saying lol

Yeah how did you get metal shavings throughout? Personally, I'd ditch the QR Time Bomb (that sounds like it already went off in your case) in favor of a better engine.

im with smurf. if youve got metal shavings youve probably got early signs of pre cat failure (shards of the catalyst being sucked back into the engine) if thats the case its too late but your best bet now is getting a bore scope and looking.
