03 QX4 antenna not fully extending

My antenna is not fully extending whenever I select the radio. It is the bottom largest section that will not extend. It does fully retract when I turn on the car or select CD.

I'm guessing it is gunked up or something. Any help is appreciated

Some of the reasons the antenna doesn't fully extend are:

1. Cold weather seems to gum it up.2. A bent antenna sometimes causes it to kink.3. A dirty antenna also prevents it to extend.4. The teeth on the line of the antenna is stripped.5. Power actuator motor is dead and not extending or retracting the antenna.

Try assisting the antenna all the way up when you select the radio, clean it with a cloth and spray some WD-40 on it. Also, check to see if the antenna may be bent. Doesn't seem like the motor is dead as you said it retracts.

I had this issue with mine and it was bent because someone forgot to retract it when going through the car wash. I bent it back to somewhat straight and its been fine.

I also changed the antenna on a buddy's 2001 QX4 when he forgot to retract the antenna at a carwash and his broke. Its cheap for a replacement and easy to replace.
