my 03 pathfinder transmission problems
it has 145,000 miles 2x4 runs great bought it about a year ago have had no problems what so ever this june we loaded it up and were taking a trip 2 1/2 hrs down the road 65 mph cruise on i feel a bang crazy noise pull of the road its the transmission no reverse start cruzing forward seems ok turn around drove home 2 1/2 hrs/ take to ammco they tell me not sure what happend needs rebuild at 2400 to 2700 bucks I decide to put junkyard transmission in find one for $600 install it( witch was a real b****) car runs great again/ baby it for awhile keep checking it didn't go over 30 miles for about a month/ this Sunday my wife takes it for trip I think its ok 2 1/2 hrs down the road 65mph cruise on bang the exact same thing /1st grear is like the brake is on reverse is making noise and does not engage 2nd and Drive is ok overdrive acts real funny/ pretty much like the 1st transmission what happend/ please help /no anti freeze in transmission fluid look fine/ did it overheat/could it be the control module / look the internet over and havn't found this problem yet it has to be a problem with the car and not the two trannys

Did AAMCO clean the stock cooler after the first trans died and strew junk all throughout the cooling circuit? If not, your second trans is toast too. Drop the pan and see how much crap is in the pan and on the magnet. There is a DIY guide here.

I believe I have the same issue except a QX4 with 4x4, automatic with 92k. While driving on the freeway (in 2wd) I heard a loud bang and O/D seems to have stopped working. Vehicle revved up to about 3500rpm. The transmission seems to be in safe mode as it feels like it is constantly in third gear, even from a dead stop. Reverse gear does not work, it just revs and the vehicle does not move. There is the more an occasional grinding/ rattling sound when in reverse, and moving forward.

I assume the transmission is toast. I have the same issue as OP, except the vehicle was bought from a dealer and is still under a short warranty. This is the second transmission that went with the issues I mentioned above. Going through legal matters currently with them.

I am just curious as to what went wrong mechanically or electronically with the transmission.
