Hello everyone...

I have a 2003 Murano that has a mysterious stalling problem. With no warning, it will stall when stopped. It will not start up right away... but it will eventually... and run like nothing was ever wrong.

So... at first, the Nissan Dealer thought the problem was a corroded battery, and I paid to have it replaced. Of course, my Murano was still stalling... and the Dealer then thought it was the Air Flow Meter. So... I paid like $1,000 to have the meter and spark plugs replaced. Over the weekend, it stalled again. The Dealer said... "Oh... did we do that Air Duct Intake recall on your car?" Okay... so they did that work yesterday... and today, it stalled at the end of my driveway.

Obviously, they have absolutely no idea what is wrong. I love my Murano... but I've just about had it with the car, Nissan and the Dealer. I have had problems in the past... including replacing the transmission awhile ago (like so many other people had to do). It's just insane how many issues the 2003 model year has!

Right now, I have 81,000 miles on my Murano... and I am religious about maintenance. If anyone has any ideas about my stalling issue... I would love to hear them!

Thank you,

Christie

Wow. That sounds rough. I think the dealer should have taken responsibility after the second fail. Contact nissan corporate and tell them, so they can tell the dealer to stop screwing around. Sorry about the issues. The murano is nice. Though I would only want an 06 or newer b/c of said issues.

Definately you shouldn't have to pay for the "guess and test" method that your service dept is using. If they aren't sure of a solid diagnosis for a problem, they can't just start replacing parts in the hopes that it'll solve the problem when you're paying the bill, they probably replaced perfectly good parts! They should at least cost share with you, I'd recommend calling Nissan corporate and reporting the issue, and also talk to you service guys manager too so he's not blind sighted by this, I think you stand a VERY good chance of being reimbursed for some of the work at least. As for a solution, it could be anything, those vehicles are so complex you're really at the mercy of the service techs so I'd just keep taking it back and don't let them replace anything else unless they're sure it's the problem.

You're right... I just emailed corporate... so they have all the details. I've really about had it with the Dealer. Within the last couple of months... they also told me that I needed all new brakes when I recently had them replaced. They also told me that I needed new tie rods... but when I told them that Tire Kingdom didn't see anything wrong... they quickly said "good news.. upon a second inspection... we see that you do not need new tie rods after all." Ugghh!!!!
