Hey Fellers,

I need to replace the trunk lift supports. Has anyone ever done that themselves? Easy or too difficult?

Thanks.

Pretty easy, just requires some extra steps that might make you scratch your head.

Yes, the process is pretty straightforward as a DIY ... about 30 minutes or so, as you can see from the information at the link posted above.

I had a similar question - great answer.

Just to be sure, the links to replacement struts have 9.5 inch when compressed, not 9.0 inches like the post mentions. No big deal?
Thanks.

Hmmm ... the 9.5" compressed size may be a bit too long and may put a bit too much force on the strut mount when the lid is closed.

I would much prefer 9.0 inches - like the OEM strut dimension - so that even if it does not compress all the way, it will be okay.

Here, for example, is a link to the part: https://www.asraymond.com/standard-gas- ... GSNI515080 that shows a 15" length with a 6" stroke (so compressed length is 9").

Here is another site with the 6" stroke, but they only have a 60 lb strut. This might be a bit low, but may still work ... the price is very good though: https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Articles.asp?ID=298

But I have seen some other sites that seem to support your number ... so not sure now. I would still try to get a 9" strut if possible.

Do be careful to get the GSNI part (not some others that sound similar) ... that has a nitride finish for corrosion prevention.

The original OEM strut by Stabilus (expensive!) is that compressed length, although at a probable lower pressure of 65 lbs (290 Newtons), I believe.

Well guys I ordered a pair of trunk supports from an ebay seller who had them from a wrecking yard. Just finished the installation and the replacements do not support my trunk just like my old ones. The obvious is that the replacements are bad but maybe someone has an idea of something I"m overlooking??

The compressed length of more than 9" was a bit concerning, but if it worked for you, good!
