Assuming you have the 18x7.5 wheels, id say a 255-45-18 would be the widest youd want to put on... Id probably recommend a 245-45-18 though.

The 245/45-18 is the safer option. A 255/45 is too wide for a 7.5" wide wheel - yeah, it might work, but better to be safe.

In addition, the tire sidewall will flex inwards a bit with a too-narrow wheel. This changes the section profile of the tire and you might well see lower effective tread width in a 255 compared to a 245. Another reason to stick with 245/45!

There are lots of excellent 245/45-18 tires available. I have posted a list in the past ... if you want an Excel spreadsheet listing the possible options, please let me know.

On my 2003 M45, I am currently using Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 245/45-18 in a 100W load index (well above the minimum of 94 or 95 load index), and really like these tires a lot!

as an aside they redesigned the GS-D3's for 2006 and they are apparently much better than the years before. A manager at tire barn told me this.

What would a Tire Store MANAGER know about tires? Other than maybe the profit margin?

Each vehicle manufacturer has 15-40 Tire engineers [BS-PHD most are MS] on their payroll unfortunately they have been brain washed by the accounting department and they do the best they can and keep their jobs.

After all they mostly drive the cars they select tires for [thanks to discounts and parking lot restrictions].

Actually companies like Michelin help [sell] the engineers creating samples with detailed engineering tests...........one 94Q [Michelin VP engineer wife's car] was used a the test Mule for the Pilot Sport and AS in 17-19" sizes 3 years prior to G35 launch........same with the M45 they use the heavy cars to accelerate wear and look at failures.

If it lasts and performs on an early Q [twisted-angled upper link] it will survive quite nicely on any 4,000 pounder.
