Welcome to the forum. Have you tried to isolate the burning smell to see where it is coming from?

Any particular area of the cabin? Might be a speaker shorting your whole system out, etc.

I don't know how closely related those 2 circuits are, but does it make any difference to your radio when you put the cabin light switch to the OFF position?

Also, just to clarify, the stereo still responds and plays media, it's just the speakers that stop outputting music, correct?

Power nissan diagnostic found the problem was the alternator on my m45. So they charge $500 for the alternator and $200 for labor. That is alot of $. Auto zone have the alternator life time warranty for $138 plus the core. So will be saving bunch of $$$. So if a happen to you now you know what to do.. my stereo was going of on and off and smell like burning wires some sensor will flash Like the air bags ect.on the dash.....so if a happen to you now you know what to do!
I appreciate it For all the help the i I received from you guys.

Holy smokes! That's quite some mint. Our alternators shouldn't take too much effort to replace. Good luck with the repair.
... and thanks for reporting with your findings for the rest of us y34 owners.

Well i change the alternator but a didnt fix all my problem. The only thing is the i do not have any burning smell.. but the stereo situation is worst.. power nissan took my car again for a free diagnostic and came out the i need it the passenger airbag fix and a control valve sensor and they hook me up with the paper off the diagnosis tech..but the stereo is discontinued. I went to cars toy to get a estimate and they asking $2,500 and i think the is way to much to install the stereo. Now power nissan did not figure out the volume problem. I think the i have it figure out.. i live in oregon and a rain alot. Now for a weird reason my car make alot of condensation on the trunk. I cant fine any spot were the water may getting on the trunk. The condensation is so bad the i got mold in the trunk when i dont open the trunk for a long time.i always have the same problem. Now what i believe the if the amp location is in the trunk that maybe be my problem and not the stereo on the dash. I think the amp got moist because the condensation. The cd player or the cassette player dont have any volume as well. So that's why i think the is the amp on the trunk. I wonder if someone have this problem before?

Very peculiar, but it makes sense. If I recall correctly, all the y34 speakers are fed from the amp, except maybe the tweeters.
Any idea if your vehicle has been in a rear section accident in the past?
Also, open the trunk and check if that rubber seal around the lip of the trunk opening is still good. Although I haven't seen this particular part crumble, I know rubber gets compromised with age.

That's the only way I see condensation getting to the amplifier in its location. Otherwise, I'd be curious to see if one of the sunroof drains somehow got plugged and is pooling up the quarter panel area.

I really dont know if the car as being in accident. according to the dealer and the car fax. It has never been in an accident. But the passenger back quarter panel is a little different on the color.. i dont know if someone didn't buff that panel or if was a accident .. here in oregon rains alot and i like the believe that is the reason why. I will check all the drain to find out if they're plug. The condensation is so bad the top of the trunk lid is also wet. I do not used the car alot and perhaps that is the reason it is exposed to the weather.

Some events can slip by and go unreported on carfax. I hope that's not the case here, but I'm still a little concerned about the trunk alignment. Do the hinges allow the lip of the trunk near the rear glass to be flush with the quarter panels when the lid is shut?
Did you check the rubber seal?
If you check under the trunk mat in the spare wheel compartment, do you have standing water or has the plug been removed?
