I've been having some problems with my M45 lately. The car makes a loud rattling sound when its cold or been sitting for about 2-3hrs. I made a vid of the noise which I will try to post.Any advice or information about this rattle is appreciated.

Warm it up then drive it? You didn't leave much info.

Here is the vid that I made of the rattlehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmld9mIyuvgI was just wondering if anyone knew what the rattle may be. I think it could be the heat shield. Once the car is at normal operating temp then the rattle stops.

I have the same problem.

I asked my brother (Nissan Mechanic) and he told me a lot of nissan owners complain about this. He said that there is a heat shield underneath the car righ there is the "Y" in the muffler pipes. They usually cut it down when they get complaining customers.

I have to get him to cut mine down too.

It is probably better to re-attach the heat-shield properly ... I would not remove it entirely. My two cents ...

Exhaust heat shield have been a known issue since 1990 as has been the various fixes, usually involves a few all metal hose clamps to stablize.

Well I had taken my car to the dealership and I didn't want to fork over $100+ just for them to tell me yeah its the heat shield. But they did say that if it was the heat shield they would remove it and not charge me. So I may take them up on that offer. They wanted to keep it over night and look at it when its cold in the morning. So I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks for the replies.
